Maybe I mentioned I was in Ecuador about 5 years ago. I don't go many places except continental US, but I went to Quito. Funny thing about Quito anyway, anywhere you order coffee they serve a watered down version of Sanka. In the land of Juan Sandoval--old commercial--and altitude of world class coffee beans. Without exception, in the old parts of town anyway, here's how it's made.
An instant dust that looks identical to the old Sanka is put in the bottom of the cup.
A couple of ounces of hot water are added to make a thin paste.
Cup is then filled with hot water.Â
Just crap. Have to look around hard for a special place that might serve coffee. So, I thought, I'll just order a cup of this near coffee and an espresso, and pour it in the coffee. So, they brought me a cup of the coffee and a mug big as an A&W root beer full of strong espresso. So, if you ever find yourself in the older sections of Quito for breakfast, just order the espresso and get ready to rumble and roll.Â
