Waiting for the mailman (heavy sigh)
#4
Good Lord, are you a long lost sibling or something?  I too did a four year hitch in the Army to fund my college tuition via the G.I. Bill, then worked my butt off competing against 18-year olds when I was 24 years old for a walk on spot on the University football team..,My brother's always telling me I was only such a dedicated player because if I lost my position on the first string to someone else, the Alumni Association would cut off the, ahem, "financial aid" they were providing to cover room and board.

All of my CS labs were assignments for the IBM 360 until those were replaced with VAX/VMS minis and actual early Wyse terminals by my junior year - And SCO Unix for the 386 chipset wasn't available to purchase and play with at home until I was in grad school - I dumped BBS for USENET forums as soon as I got it working, and never looked back.  God, the flame wars on some of those USENET threads and IRC chats were brutal, but at that age it was fun to jump into the middle of one and spend hours there.

I can see we're going to have a lot to talk about!

Best,
