i hear you on that, sir! i have one doctor who i see really frequently and have been seeing for about a decade who doesn't talk to me like i'm a total idiot. over the years i've "proved" to him that i'm relatively intelligent about my disease and have the capacity to read and evaluate actual medical/scientific literature, and i'm not just web md-ing everything!![]()
I recently fired my Doc at the VA.
I called up 5 minutes later and asked for a new one. They said sure...would I consider a female Doctor. Now I know the female species has more empathy and kindness than their male counterpart so I was quick to say yes.
When I first met her she showed me notes on the computer screen that said "he doesn't like doctors".......being true, I didn't mind that it was in my records (in fact, it made me laugh).....and it sure showed me the trust and honesty of my new female doc. I liked her immediately. Later, having lab tests done, the technician noted my new doc and said...."do you know you have the best doctor here?" I stuck up for myself and hit the jackpot.....not the first time I learned that lesson, but it's always good to have reminders.
Talk about trust......I even told her I was self medicating (I think your/my doc should know everything).......she gave me a slight warning, listened to my reasons and accepted that I was responsible for my own decisions....didn't even make notes in my records........I wish all of you luck in your search for a smart doctor you can trust and have confidence in
