I'm speaking from experience when I say that if you were the one to walk away, you don't want to go back.  I walked away from a relationship after 3yrs. I begged to go back..... Well, after 6 months I remembered why I left...... I ended up miserable for another 2 1/2 years because I didn't want to hurt him again.  It took some time but we're good friends now.  We finally realized it was never meant to be forever, it was only meant for us to be there for each other for that moment in time. (I'm the godmother to his kids)
