I second that many doctors are leery of prescribing benzos for more than short-term use, as benzos are highly addictive. In my experience, benzos have only been prescribed for panic attacks. For anxiety, they have always prescribed me something to take every day. This is only a theory, but I think that with the huge crackdown on prescribing opiates, doctors are becoming unwilling and/or afraid to prescribe anything addictive. There is no harm in being direct with your doctor, but don't be too surprised if he or she treats you like a drug-seeker, especially given your history. I certainly don't mean to imply that you are, but I feel like there can be a backlash when patients ask for addictive meds.
