My medical doctor sister and her kids had weight issues. She always let me have dexedrine. Not so good for being wide awake. But, again, I eat solid food maybe once a day. To live. Food does not control me.
I think ur doctor was negligent to put u on both adderrall and dexedrine. Do they want your heart to just stop?
Argh.
But, even with health issues, phentermine or duromine works to keep one awake. I hear others say it controls appetite.
It will certainly give u more energy.
Good luck. But, next time u get two scripts that are both based on speeding up ur system, research them online or via a PDR, physicians desk reference. You are lucky nothing went awry having u on both of those meds.
Thanks, for sharing your thoughts/opinions on this; it's greatly appreciated! But, Dexdrine/Adderall combination is actually quite common in treating "treatment resistant depression" and Adult ADD. With you being a person that has Narcolepsy, I've no doubt that you possess a deep knowledge regarding stimulant medications, no? Therefore, I'm sure that you do realize that Adderall is similar to Dexedrine in many ways. The difference lies in the ingredients, where Dexedrine is but one of the ingredients in Adderall, and the others being a combination of various "salts." Ingredient-wise, Dexedrine is more "pure" than Adderall, hence, it would be considered the stronger drug.
Please, allow me to clarify what/how I was taking my meds prior to the change and after. Initially, before the switch, I was prescribed BOTH Dexedrine instant and extended release pills. Also note, that I'm on the 5 mg instant release tablets, and often take ONLY those throughout the day. But, I was also prescribed the 15 mg extended release capsules of Dexedrine (15 mg is the highest mg available for xr Dexedrine). So, the way I'd take my medications varied according to my daily activities, etc. If it was going to be a busy day, I'd take one 15 mg Dexedrine xr capsule upon waking, and follow-up a few hours later with a 5 mg Dexedrine IR tablet. If it was an exceptionally hectic day, I'd take another 15 mg xr Dexedrine in the early afternoon.
The only change to my current regimen, is that I now take the xr Adderall instead of the xr Dexedrine capsule. Oh, and I've actually found the xr Adderall to be SO much weaker than the xr Dexedrine! So much so, that I now alternate between the 15 mg and 20 mg xr Adderall throughout the day. I was more motivated when taking the 2 versions of Dexedrine, previously prescribe.
Finally, being that you suffer from Narcolepsy, I'm sure that you most likely have experienced the ole "trial and error" frustration of trying to find the RIGHT stimulant, before you eventually "struck gold", so to speak. Well, I felt as though I'd "struck gold" before I was forced to switch to Adderall! At any rate, I certainly appreciate your concern as it relates to possible heart issues, which incidentally, is a possibility will ALL stimulants. But, trust me, I did extensive research on the Dexedrine/Adderall combination and found many forums with individuals on that specific combination. Not the "usual" combination, but still, not unheard of with stimulants.
Lastly, I haven't taken Phentermine in literally decades (yes, I'm old, lol). But, boy when I did take it, it was always the extended release capsules that worked for me. You know the ones, dark blue on one end and clear on the other with the little beads inside. They gave me energy like nobody's business and my appetite was almost non-existent. I loved those little capsules! I hope that you're right about the Duromine, and that they have a similar effect. That's what I don't like about the Adderall, also; they don't give me ANY energy!!! Thanks again for your response to my question. I appreciate you.

S/N: I forgot to mention, that my Psychiatrist has me take an EKG twice a year and also checks my blood pressure at each appointment. He's VERY careful and won't hesitate to discontinue something if he finds that it's too dangerous.
