Thanks everyone - good points about withdrawals. Although in a sense I'm going to have to face that anyway since I've been on Tramadol a long time. I need to investigate what dosages venlafaxine comes in, and whether pills can be split etc. Basically all the info I'd need for tapering. It might be that it is for life, but certainly want to be well informed before making any decisions.

After my experience of being put on diazepam with no warning about the addiction issue, I still listen to doctors' advice but always check things myself.
