So let me give my experience so far.....
Took myself off the gabapentine, and lyrica after almost 3'weeks ago. I started on 1---50mg twice a day then DR wanted me to get to 3 times a day. Told her it was hard to get to 3 a day because it made me feel like a zombie/couldn't think/just felt, like crap. Plus my left foot and ankle increased in swelling. Pain was still there although not as in tense. I go back to the DR, tell her all of the above, show her my foot plus the pictures of my swollen foot (this is the foot I had a total knee on 20 months ago) and what does she do, tells me to,take 75mg twice a day. The next day I take the 75mg of,lyrica same sensations plus I start to have heart palpitations. Call the DR. Office and told still take the 75mg at night. Really?... forgot,to mention she said well I can give you a diuretic for the swollen leg. Excuse me, it was swollen before I went to see her and she assured me it would go away.
So I took myself off lyrica for neuropathy right after that call, although I don't recommend that only because a day after I did it I read a person can have seizures if that drug isn't titrated off.
So next phase....
I live in a state where both medical marijuana and recreational marijuana is legal. There are differences if you have a medical card on what you can get and there are specialists that will advise one on what to take and use. So my next step was get a consult from a medical marijuana specialists ....what do I have to lose. It has taken a bit to figure out what really works for me such as what strains should I vap, should I use edibles, what, kind of topicalS can I use, plus there are now medical marijuana patches for pain. There is a big difference between CBD and CBDA and THC and THCA and how it can help. And then if you mix the 2, how much of each do you take. Medical marijuana is a real science I am finding.
At first CBD tinitures didn't work. Then it was suggested I try a mixture of CBD and THCA tinicture. Then I tried a small mg of an edible. What I am finding is you have to slowly and moderately take CBD and or THCA so it eventually works with your natural CBD/THC/in your body. What works for me is THCA which is THC but without the high. I also use a topical salve I rub on my leg and it works miricals. Takes my pain away. It didn't at first, and I had to find the right mixture of CBD/THC/THCA. Now it does. It doesn't help my with the swelling, which is another story.
I found a orthopedic Chiropracter who I didn't even know existed. Is a homeopathic physician and works with muscles, etc and I am hoping will help with the swelling. She that DR in 3 weeks.
So that's my story so far. For me not knowing much about marijuana, even though I live in a place others would think we all do, I really needed to find a person who was well versed in how it could help medicinally. I would definitely recommend a specialists to anyone if they could find and use one. That is how I found out about the marijuana pain patches that I put on my leg, they last 96 hours and look like any other pain patch.
Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me with questions
