Quick question. Has anyone ever used a pre-paid credit card to pay for orders? The last time that I paid by cc, my credit card company treated it as a cash advance and charged some ridiculous fees. I don't mind paying online, but would like to avoid this and wondered if anyone had gone this route.

Yes I have once as a test with a Vendor on here, but use bank transfer now and normal credit card, no major surcharge in my neck of the woods.. Well a lot less than the walk in WU charges..

So, they didn't treat your cc transaction as a cash advance? I wonder why my bank did. Hmm... The only problem that I had last time was the additional fees. I think I'll try the pre-paid cc this time and if that doesn't work, I'll try a different credit card. Bank transfers scare me, but if you have a vendor you have been using for awhile it's probably safe. Just me being paranoid.

Why would a bank transfer scare you, it is the safest way, you log into your account, your bank online, all you do in put in their information, your bank does the transfer, vendor has no part of it, same as if you pay a local bill online. You can give you Bank Account Number to anyone, all they can do with it is deposit money against it, nothing else....... Only way they can take money from your account is to Hack it, this would mean hacking the Bank, then every ones accounts could be hacked, or if you were to give out your  login details...

Yeah, I guess. I am working on a case right now re: digital checks that weren't cashed, but the minute the customer sent the money, the bank withheld the funds. All of the large banks are doing this and even if the check is never cashed for whatever reason, the funds are gone unless the consumer catches it and files a dispute within 90 days. It's a common problem and one of many cases that I have worked on in recent years regarding banks, the FDCPA, fraudulent bank accounts, and other consumer protection related financial issues. You see enough of those and it becomes a concern.

My bank also charges $25 for a wire transfer fee, so I might as well pat the cash advance fee, but I'll check with my credit union tomorrow to check on their policies.
