what music vid transfixed you as a child?
#6
Ah, The Buggles! Trevor Horn produced the music of my childhood... Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Pet Shop Boys, Grace Jones, Art of Noise... I was far too young to get the meaning of "Relax" ;-) My poor mother when the five year old me asked why the BBC had banned it... Blush

That's interesting to hear a dancer's perspective of "Thriller". I was never really a Jackson fan, but when I had a brief stint as a DJ I used to drop in sections of the 12" mix of Thriller. As a nightclub DJ you have to play music that entices people to dance and feed them enough familiar stuff that the dancefloor doesn't seem too scary. I don't think I ever played any of the sections with Jackson singing (other than a few signature whoops), it was mostly about that funky bassline. I had two copies of the same record so could loop it endlessly if I wanted.

I think with the current crop they can rely on effects and a big stage show to get them out of trouble. I don't think Madonna has the best voice, but she did put on a performance. Britney certainly had that x factor, but sadly she really seems to have lost it. Fame too young is almost always a disaster (yes, Mr Bieber, I do mean you!). There are a few too many who seem to think that simply appearing = a show.
