Anyone Else From The UK?

I can't believe the hypocrisy of this UK Government...it said in it's manifesto that it would be 'tackling the injustice' of how Mental Health is dealt with in this country and yet makes more and more cuts within the NHS.

I hate this government so much. It isn't just that I disagree with them about so many things (e.g. I think hard Brexit will be an unmitigated disaster - I realise many people disagree with me), but also that they seem so incompetent (again with Brexit, whichever side of that debate you stand, they have not done a good job of negotiating).

The promise about mental health and more funding sounds good if it were true, but I don't know anyone working in that area who has seen an extra penny. It is just more cuts. I don't know if it is an absolute bare faced lie, or if they've somehow justified it by double-counting some money. But for Jeremy Hunt to end up in a spat with Stephen Hawking really tells you something. A trained scientist is pointing out to him that he has cherry picked the evidence and ignored research that doesn't agree with him. Hunt either doesn't understand why that's a problem, or doesn't care. I don't know which is worse.

I wish we were more like some of the European countries where the minister for health actually has a background in that area (e.g. has been a doctor, or managed a hospital). Or the minister for education used to be a headteacher or something. But we've had enough of experts haven't we? (cf Michael Gove). We wouldn't want people making rational decisions rather than ideological ones linked to austerity and protecting the richest 1%.
