Tom Petty died of accidental drug overdose, medical examiner says
#3
I loved Petty, as a musician and as a person. Still can't believe that he is gone. I think that he may have a made a fatal error by continuing to tour with that broken hip. I know that touring was his life, but if you have to be on two kinds of f_nt, oxy, t-pam and ALP...it would beg the question of whether he would need all that if he didn't tour and just rested. He still could have created music without all that wear and tear on his body. Loading your body up with that cocktail of pk and benozos just sounds excessive to me, unless there was a life or death reason that you had to push your body to those limits. Yes, it was cool that he wanted to please the fans, and that he lived for touring, but at some point he must have realized that he was risking his life. Doctors advice is one thing, but there comes a point where personal responsibility kicks in. Tom had been around. I am sure the possibility that he might be taking a potentially dangerous combo of meds crossed his mind more than once. But he pushed on anyway. His actions were both heroic and reckless at the same time. I wish that he was still with us.
