I have a real sweet tooth...so desserts do it for me.

Especially comfort food...my all time favourite is my Mum's Strawberry Crumble with homemade custard.

Just heavenly...

Nice post, barq.

Thanks Charon - good to hear from you.

When my mum was growing up, there was still food rationing after WWII (it went on for years because of half of Europe was destroyed). I think anyone who grows up in a situation where food is scarce tends to get good at making simple meals from not that much. When I was young my family didn't have much money. I didn't always appreciate it at the time, but even though making soup is easy, I'll always be proud to make soup my mum's way. Making food for others can be an act of love. Now she is old I'm sometimes able to make her the same soup she used to give me. I'm not so good at the bread - more of a cook than a baker. But I found a shop that sells the most real bread you'd ever get wrapped in plastic and it is close enough :-)

All the best,
barq

I was having a conversation with someone this past week about polarizing foods. Cilantro, mushrooms, water chesnuts, tofu...

I like them all but I can totally understand why someone wouldn't like them.

What foods do you like that you think are polarizing?
What foods do you hate that everyone loves? (I don't like popcorn.)

Also, is there anyone who doesn't like pizza?? Wink

What's the secret to your chilli? I slow cook mine and add a tiny bit of coco powder. It's funny what extra ingredients give a meal a special kick. Like I have a curry where I cook part of it with a tea bag in the saucepan. You'd NEVER guess there was tea in it, but it adds a special something.

Anyway, do you use real chillis, or dried/powder? I love a good chilli so I'm always trying to steal other people's recipes! :-)

Now I'm thinking about eating the jar of jalapeños in my fridge... Tongue
