Here's my random thought.

The first iPhone was only released in 2007.  So this addiction teens have to texting, Snapchat, social media is kind of a new thing.  Wonder what the long term effects are going to be.

Hi Fire,
That's a very interesting question, long term effects.  I used to own a domain name:  "Information Will Kill US.com"  I had a lot of stuff to put up, mine and other people's thoughts, but never had the time to make the site, so I let the domain name go.  Maybe I should re-purchase it.
Without doubt, at all levels, it--the Information Age--causes depersonalization.  And of course misinformation is free to roam.

That syndicated genius gal "Marilyn Vos Savant" had a piece years ago, and editorial, that emphasized that for most of human history they only had to deal with information within a couple of days walk.  Today our brains have to sift through a plethora of happening from around the globe, geo politics, natural disasters, etc.  She argued that our brains aren't really developed far enough to deal.  There is that, and I'm with you.  "Compexity" is one of the causes listed as civilization killers, along with population, no more oil, water, and a couple of others.  Used to be if your neighbor's had a pig that died, you could empathize.  Today we have to integrate people being chopped up with machetes by Boko Haram, and thousands washed away in tsunamies.  And these are just some of the problems associated.  I wish us all luck.

Fireplaces... i understand your concern. I maybe you and I are around the same age...maybe you are younger,, When the computer came out, for many years there were people that did not adapt. Including me. I am a believer we guide our young people with
their innovative ideas

There is too much money pouring into it. Right now it is paying a lot of bills for California and the USA, no turning back now. What have we created? When I was younger we had to go out and get real friends, cut out the heart shapes with red carbon paper instead of clicking a button. :-) I just passed 50.

That sounds like an interesting book. I know growing up I hid things from my parents and I wonder what with the media outlets teens have. I have a daughter in college now and i could not deny her all the basics and access to social media. Sometimes there has to be a lot of trust and love.
