COVID UPDATES. TIME TO DECIDE ABOUT SPREADING COVID
#81
Thank u and wasn't that amazing slick? boy. i mean i get these hyper and elaborate weather updates. and they never come true. so i was not expecting this.

Hope u all don't get parts of it. And i know Slick. Life would be easier if i had a more normal houseshare. But i am sure we are both very clever about making wacko things work. and we know instinctively how to get by.

We are strong. Most of the women here are very strong. Hope u r ok, Slick and thank u Orange Rabbit for coming by again so much. U r wise and going thru a lot but u r still so kind.

Hold on all. We shall all get thru this...together. You are an awesome grouping of people and i am so glad to have met so many of u all. Good people. Do something for urself tonite. A treat of some kind.

Glad to see you back on Charon!!  I was praying you didn't lose electric!

It got so dark here around 5:30, I had to turn living room lights on. And
then it started!!  You name it, we got it!!  Hail, lightening, thunder, pouring rain and wind gusts, which I still can
hear the wind!  I will have to go out tomorrow and make sure there is no damage to the roof, etc.

Yes Lady, we are a strong bunch of women here!  But it sure would help to have someone around (not 24/7!!) to
take care of some things I can't!  Thank the lord I have two bathrooms!!  The one toilet just kept running and I tried everything.  Finally, I just cleaned it up good with bleach, gave it the finger, and turned the water to it off!!!!!  Dodgy Dodgy

As for a treat, my arse is showing my treats!!!  Big Grin

Hi O.R. !!

Take care ALL!!  Heart

Slick I didn’t know you were in the same area as charon. So glad you too are safe.
Oh Slick how I know what you mean about the bathroom. Same thing happened to me. It took me 2 months to get it fixed and it took the handyman 2 minutes to get it to stop running. And I tried everything for 2 months. Nothing worked.

Yes my friend. I 2 would like someone as a fixer but not 24/7 lol

Already? Cool. Not i.

We have a new problem here. Non stop fires have been set for two days now. In an area once wealthy but now mostly black live there. And some claimed that blacks are more likely to get the virus.

At least all essential workers now must wear face masks. Even our LE. About time.

The President felt he was King of the USA. That all his decisions are what will prevail. Cuomo is an attorney and knows the three parts of the gvt are separate. Mr. President today says he never said that. And he told cuomo to take his time and cuomo decides when to re open the state.

And we got people driving like idiots. And they are running down pedestrians going for walks. So it is advised to not walk.

And, of all things, Doctors are being told to give a three month prescription to patients and the pharmacies should deliver it to our doors. Cuomo is on.

Just catching up on all this so glad you made it through the storm. Plus all the other stuff going on, heard people got there checks but around the south most major banking institutions online banking is down so they cant access there accounts. Typical. Hopefully this madness will ease soon. Stay healthy and safe.

Ny wont get stimulus checks now until Trumps name is added to the list.

don't ask me. i don't do politics.

And, cuz i am the elderly with underlying conditions, despite having perfect credit, my cc company cancelled my card. To many a NYer. They figure we just all gonna die anyway and its difficult to re coup monies from a decedent.

Banking comes and goes here. We all gotta wear masks now if we go out. Yeah, where do we get them? I rent a couch and i certainly dont have a scarf.

I just wonder how the hell we can rent another place. Will they make us get Covid tests, which are fairly impossible to get now? And the results?

And a fine member of the GOP said so what if lives are being lost. It is worse for the economy to remain closed.

Twice now, people released from prison to protect them from covid, went out and killed another. Got re arrested.

Whom the hell decides, based on past history, whom gets out now? yikes.

Oh, and they advised if u have a young child and it has a cold and fever, assume its the virus. We aint getting all the facts at all.

one more: sneezes and coughs travel two or three aisles in a grocery store and the droplets stay in the air for for a few hours. Sounds like a guess to me.But u must wear a mask to enter a grocery store now.

NCOA analysis points to depression-era economic insecurity for older adults
Arlington, VA (April 16, 2020) – The National Council on Aging (NCOA), a trusted national leader working to ensure that every person can age well, is warning that the financial hardships created by the COVID-19 pandemic will push between 1.4 and 2.1 million more older Americans into poverty, and older adults with the least wealth will be the hardest hit.

That is the sobering conclusion of a recently published NCOA and LeadingAge LTSS Center @UMass Boston issue brief that looks at historical data from the 2008 recession and applies those findings to today’s economic and public health crisis.

“Recent history shows us that older adults suffer significant declines in net wealth during large and unanticipated economic downturns,” said Dr. Susan Silberman, NCOA Senior Director, Research & Evaluation. “A case in point is the Great Recession that began with the collapse of financial markets in 2008. A common trend seen across those aged 60 and older, regardless of age group or retirement status, was a decrease in total net wealth and taking on greater debt during times of recession.”

The issue brief also found that retired older adults were better able to weather the financial storm thanks in part to retirement benefits and Medicare. These findings underscore the importance of a societal safety net for older adults during times of economic upheaval.

Although the analysis focused on the potential financial risks to older adults during an impending recession, COVID-19 adds a health component that will likely have devastating consequences for this age demographic on top of any economic impacts.

“We know that health vulnerability and financial vulnerability overlap, which makes it crucial to consider how both of these factors will intersect for our nation’s older adults,” Silberman said. “Taking into account both the economic effects of a recession and the heightened health risk to our older citizens will be vital for navigating the impact of COVID-19 during this time of uncertainty.”

The full issue brief, Economic Insecurity for Older Adults in the Presence of the COVID-19 Pandemic, is available for download.
