Happy Venting!
This is a picture of an AirBNB we stayed in during a recent holiday to Japan. Can you find the little black table between the two couches? In the Safety Instructions for Guests we were advised... "In case of Earthquake, take shelter under the table". ![]()

Hahaha Richard, I hope you didn't experience an earthquake since that table wouldn't shelter a cat or small dog!!

yeah that table looks way too small for protection.
but Richard do you mind saying what cities you visited in Japan?

We spent a week in Tokyo. Wonderful, gigantic, bright, clean, respectful, super-organized.
A week in Kyoto. Not quite as enjoyable - they have started pandering for tourists - but it is still the Old Japan. (It was spared from being bombed in the war because a US military guy had spent his honeymoon there years before ) Then our last week was in Fukuoka - a city way out of the way and rarely visited by Westerners - and we got what we wanted - a taste of 'real' Japan. Splendiferous. We can't speak highly enough of the Japanese people we encountered. And we saw no homelessness, no graffiti, no public drunkenness nor drugged-out youth, no raising voices (the most was the occasional raised eyebrow ).I don't mean to make it sound 'sanitized' - it's quite the opposite - but we've never experienced such politeness and a willingness to 'get along together' anywhere else. Absolutely fabulous. Highly recommended. And far less expensive than expected. And the food....oh, the food.... But don't expect anyone to speak English! You're in Japan, so you need to learn basic Japanese greetings, thankyous, etc. Hmmm... perhaps I should continue this in the "Places you have or would like to visit" thread....

It is quite interesting. My generation went thru yrs and yrs of academia. Me father, never allowed us vacations. And when I practiced law with him, he would not aIllow lunch.
So, really, feel free to contribute to the afore mentioned thread. u sound so happy. it must have been glorious. and i would like to hear about the country and the people. I was of the impression that the people were very polite and smiled a good deal. Love to hear of your travels. It is Well with My Soul

Venting time. My better half is a light sleeper snd complains beeping electronics frequently wake her up (usually mine) so I'm in the doghouse and said electronics are banned from the bedroom.
Tonight she has woke me up three times trying to find something she claims is beeping. All my kits is either off or out of the room. My suggestion if could be one of her electronic items (which are clearly never barred from the room) was met with a gruff 'don't be stupid' and rolled over. So now I'm the one who can;t sleep after being woken 3 times. Grrrrrrr |
