Much love!

Don't quote me here, but I *think* I saw our beloved Charon post that 10 posts a day is now ok, but double check.

@jjbeans. The kind of sleep you mention is my absolute dream. I think I can count on one hand good sleep i've had in the past 5 years. I will def try the gummies. I've just started spraying my pillow at night with a "calm" spray. not sure its working but it does make my pillow small like a spa which is nice. I should ask my mom if i was a good sleeper as a child. my mother has the same issues as me w insomnia. ah genetics.

congrats on kicking the 0p!ate habit- that is a huge feat. don't be too hard on yourself about the bzos. those take time. i was taking them on the regular for 2 years after an accident and trying to get off was so hard. tapering slowly really worked and the last bit was the hardest. the rebound anxiety was atrocious but gradually i learned to accept that its ok to feel uncomfortable and stressed bc it will pass and i don't need to reach for a p!ll. i can feel these bad feelings and not mask them and most likely they will pass and the next time will be easier.
that said i still im still a panicky person and always will be.

That's great andybones!Smile I had read this thread before and wanted to comment on Kava. Everybody is different and it does taste horrible, but I felt as if I had taken a box of sudafed! Yikes! It has been so awful trying everything just to sleep! Brain off, and SLEEP! The FDA is working on several new meds for sleep, out in 3-6 years. If anyone has any suggestions not already talked about here, please post! Thanks!SmileSmile

I've always had recurring insomnia and general anxiety, so I got started on prescribed xans. I've been on bzos over a year now. It's come to the point where it's hard, if not impossible, to sleep without it. I've slowly tapered down and switched to long-acting bzos... but that last step is desperately hard to take. Its hard to keep functional when rebound anxiety makes you fearful of anything outside your room.

Kava worked alright for me but it tastes like shit-stained cardboard. Red Kratom gives you a stronger feeling of sedation, it's what has worked best for me so far. But it's addictive in it's own right- not an everyday thing. Maybe sleepless nights are something that's meant to be endured.

My Dr prescribed the antidepressant Trazodone it helps me get to sleep and sleep through the night and not feel drowsy in the morning. Best antidepressant I've tried.

I think most ADs are a nightmare, drs have been sold the myth that they are a great med by big pharma witch drs but after reading so many bad experiences with various ADs over the years i now come to the conclusion they are not all they are made out to be, side effects and the fact these things are addictive puts me right off, of course, not one gp i have been prescribed ADs by over the years has ever mentioned they are addictive, quite the opposite really, liars. Try going without something supposed to be a milder AD like fluoxitine otherwise known as prozac for 2 or 3 days and see how you feel, it aint nice btw.
Mind the Gap Please. Exclamation

I absolutely hated trazadone!Sadmade me feel like the muscles in my legs were tense. I could not relax! Bummer! Skipper, Oxepam will help you sleep. I'm surprised the VA suggested it! Anything that is considered addictive, usually requires being seen by a psych doc. One of my doctors for years was going to prescribe me that med and couldn't. Insomnia is the worst!Sad

Skipper1. Sorry. I just read your post again and misread it! I'm sorry you didn't get it prescribed to you!

Good for you! She's the only Dr that I have had tell me that. My longtime Dr's think she's crazy! I've already been told by several sleep Dr's that chronic insomnia does shorten your life and cause a lot of health problems!

samppk, if you do decide to go with Ambien, try to find the extended release version.  It is a bit more expensive but I think it would be well worth it to get an uninterrupted 8 hours of sleep.  Heck, I would be happy with 5 hours!

Noelb98, Ambein I never got a restful sleep. Lorazepam worked will for a whilebut I have to take a break from benzos because depression set in.

My Dr put me on a combination of Trazodone and Clonidine  and I get to sleep easily and rest sound and wake up feeling fresh and ready for the day (after my two cups of coffee).

Trazodone and Clonidine are drugs Doctors don't seem to mine prescribing either. Mine gave me 90 day supply with 3 refills.

Anyway good luck to you, hope you find what you need. Take care.
