COVID UPDATES. TIME TO DECIDE ABOUT SPREADING COVID
I saw that Orange Rabbit. And, In NY, I would have to take some sorta mass transit. To the college towns upstate. Syracuse. May have the vaccine.

But, Cuomo has warned we shall be in big trouble if we get a vaccine outside our zip code area.

Ny messed up big time. Five hundred doses left out by an anti vaccine nut. We sent a shipload to elsewhere. We have two in the state. One of which is causing anaphalactic shock. sp. So now they are on hold.

Please be so careful. Many are still dying. They tell their family they are more tired than ever. Or want to lie down. Not necessarily symptoms the lay person can detect. And they are deceased by morn. At home.

so whether it is cuz the UK derivative is here, or they rushed the vaccine, but in NY, it would help to be a very wealthy politician to get one's arm protected by the vaccine in the needle. We just cannot get it. One place for Westchester and its booked up way past april. But no one can get thru anymore.

God only knows what will happen on inaug day. God bless America and her people and her peace.

Charon I heard on the news today that 2 people from the mainland US were in Hawaii and got the vaccine there. They said on the news anyone over 65 can get a vaccine in any state in the US. It doesn’t have to be the one you in. What’s that about? No consistency at all. This vaccine issue is such a cluster you know what.

The vaccination is available to people 75 or older here and my state has already filled the list for vaccinations.

Some people missed the deadline and were just out of luck.

Please pray for more vaccines.

Deal, Willie. The UK version is confirmed in 18 people as of last nite. in NY. Original Epicenter. We cannot get the vaccine in NY. Supply is gone. Or they would expect a disabled elder drive to up up state NY or way down to a very crowded part of Westchester to get a vaccine. They may have more appts available in april.

It "now appears there is some evidence that the new variant... may be associated with a higher degree of mortality," UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said.

If you want to know, check a news page. I don't wanna put you all in panic modes. We also have a south african version here. And a brazillian or spanish strain. I am not a scientist.

Stay vigillant. So many families on the covid forum have lost large numbers from some getting together at holiday. The numbers are as high as in march and february. And, people just want to rest till the next day. But they don't make it. So this variant takes hold quickly. Please. Be careful.

What was it like exactly a year ago, how different from now.  Will we ever truly be back to normal?
I want to see a concert,  a baseball game, go to a mall and stroll around, I am so hoping that in less
than a year we will see something like normal.
Good health and happiness to all !!
Being kind to others costs nothing and enriches your life,

we all have felt unloved at one time or another we should never want another to feel that way. Smile

COVID-19: Wearing Two Masks Better Than One, Creates Obstacle Course For Virus, CDC Says
Kristin Palpini

01/24/2021 11:30 a.m.

I have the science on it. It is the CDC. My friend in Paris lost her MOM and almost her brother. She wears 3 masks cuz she is terrified. Won't fly. Now the healthcare people agree that wearing more than one mask is useful.

I will get more N95 masks. And put a three ply fitted face mask over that. Or the damn shield.

These new variants of covid are very contagious. Protect your eyes. And of course NY keeps screwing up the vaccine or leaving it out. Oops. EEjits.

As the first COVID-19 vaccines were administered in England, some people were reported to have experienced severe allergic reactions.
In the U.S., the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it also learned of reports in the U.S. after people got the shot. In Alaska, two health care workers at the same hospital developed concerning reactions just minutes after receiving Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine.
As an example, an allergic reaction is considered severe when a person needs to be treated with epinephrine or EpiPen, or if they must go to the hospital.
Below is what you need to know about COVID-19 vaccines and severe allergic reactions:
1. If you get a COVID-19 vaccine and you think you might be having a severe allergic reaction after leaving the vaccination site, seek immediate medical care by calling 911.
2. If you have ever had a severe allergic reaction to any ingredient in a COVID-19 vaccine, the CDC recommends that you should not get that specific vaccine. If you have had a severe allergic reaction to other vaccines or injectable therapies, you should ask your doctor if you should get a COVID-19 vaccine. Your doctor will help you decide if it is safe for you to get vaccinated.
3. The CDC recommends that people with a history of severe allergic reactions not related to vaccines or injectable medications, such as allergies to food, pet, venom, environmental, or latex, may still get vaccinated. People with a history of allergies to oral medications or a family history of severe allergic reactions, or who might have an milder allergy to vaccines may also still get vaccinated.
When can I get the COVID-19 vaccine? Here are three things to know about the shot availability.
4. If you have a severe allergic reaction after getting the first shot, you should not get the second shot. Your doctor may refer you to a specialist in allergies and immunology to provide more care or advice.
5. All people who get a COVID-19 vaccine should be monitored on-site. People with a history of severe allergic reactions should be monitored for 30 minutes after getting the vaccine. All other people should be monitored for 15 minutes after getting the vaccine.
6. Vaccination providers should have appropriate medications and equipment, such as epinephrine, antihistamines, stethoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, and timing devices to check your pulse, at all COVID-19 vaccination sites.
7. If you experience a severe allergic reaction after getting a COVID-19 vaccine, vaccination providers should provide rapid care and call for emergency medical services. You should continue to be monitored in a medical facility for at least several hours.

Dr. Fauci says authorities should assume the worst about a new strain of coronavirus from the U.K. because it has a 30% higher mortality rate for older people.

Between all these mutations and slow roll out of the vaccine we are in for a long winter. The only good news is that so far the vaccine has been effective vs these new strains. I hear the Johnson and Johnson vaccine is on the horizon too.

I've been following the news about variants and vaccines very closely.

Both the UK and South Africa are really into genomics, so are some of the best equipped places to detect variants. So in each case patient 0 could have been anywhere, but UK and SA were the places they were identified. Anyway, the UK version is now dominant in the UK because it is more transmissible. Although the PM said it is 30% more fatal, lots of scientists are debating that and also the efficacy of the vaccines on the variants. The fatality due to new variant is difficult to establish since hospitals are better at treating COVID and now have some drugs to help.

As for vaccines, I increasingly suspect there will be a 2nd generation set of vaccines that cover a wider range of variants (a bit like how the 'flu vaccine changes every year to keep up with the varieties going around). At the moment the UK has taken the controversial decision to prioritise getting the first injection to as many people as possible, which means waiting 12 weeks for the second injection. That's not what the manufacturer recommended, but the logic seems to be that this will save the maximum number of lives since the first dose alone gives a reasonable level of protection. Even those who do get COVID after injection 1 have a milder version and far less likely to end up in hospital. Only time will tell if this is a good strategy or not.

Until then I agree with Charon about using masks to stay safe. The N95 variety are great, the other standards that are reliable are the EU regulated ones FFP2 (equivalent to N95) and FFP3 (the maximum protection). If you encounter KN95, they might be great or they might not, it is a self-certification. But Ive got some KN95 masks and cut one open to check the layers, it had proper melt-blown plastic - you can test this is real rather than just issue paper with a flame. If it shrivels like plastic then that's good. Note that some have a valve to make breathing more comfortable, they keep you safe but you are exhaling unfiltered air, potentially exposing other people, through that one way valve. Obviously you can wear a surgical mask over the top to compensate.

I notice lots of people with masks that do not fit properly. You want to shape the top so it goes around your nose. If you are male and have a beard, you might want to consider trimming it because it's impossible to get a proper fit with a beard keeping the mask from sealing against your skin.

Stay safe my friends.
