Brownsville Resident Frustrated over Increased Border Activity

BROWNSVILLE- One of Brownsville’s southmost property owners said he is fed up with all the drugs crossing on his land.

Rusty Monsees said he is seeing an increase in activity from the river. He’s also getting more phone calls about the activity.

Monsees has become the liaison between authorities and his neighbors.

“The amount of drugs that are coming through is phenomenal,” he said.
Monsees’s land is right on the river. The border fence is in his front yard.
“They come over the fence; they climb over the fence,” he said.

Earlier this week, a Border Patrol chase on Monsees’s land ended with agents confiscating drugs and the driver escaping across the river.

Narcotics are common in this area and in the neighborhood up the road.

“I've got people that call me constantly, because they are afraid it's going to be found out that they are reporting activities,” Monsees said.

Monsees said he passes information on to Border Patrol. He said he doesn’t mind being the messenger.

“I have less to lose than they do,” Monsees said. “They're looking at their livelihood, they're looking at their kids, they're looking at their extended family, they're looking at their home and everything else.”

Monsees is frustrated more isn’t being done to secure the border where the fence ends. He said DPS troopers rarely patrol the area, despite the state border surge. “They’re taking monies and they’re not working,” he said.

Border Patrol admitted they’re seeing a spike in smuggling attempts in Cameron County. CHANNEL 5 NEWS has reported on some of the most brazen attempts in recent months.
Monsees said he wants law enforcement in Hidalgo and Starr counties to move down the river to protect his property from smugglers. He said he fears things will only continue to get worse.

Public Affairs Officer Omar Zamora from the Border Patrol’s Rio Grande Valley sector sent CHANNEL 5 NEWS this statement:

“The RGV Sector Border Patrol strongly encourages the public to engage in their civic duty and report suspicious activity to local law enforcement agencies.  All reported suspicious activity remains anonymous and helps law enforcement keep the community safe.  Criminal organizations utilize tactics that put the public in danger. By taking a stand against crime in their neighborhoods, community members help prevent misfortune and the loss of life that could arise from cruel and callous smuggling methods used by criminals.”

Wow.. Been there quite a lot and there was absolutely nothing to stop anybody... Matter-0-fact .. When I kinda stay a bit, I stuck out like a sore thumb... Looks exactly like Mexico in Brownsville... Back then, you didn't even need a passport... Just walk across the bridge and there you were! I wasn't there a full 5 mins when this guy ran up and said,"You need a doctor?" and to top it off, the F e d s at the border didn't even care (still don't) about a d e a number on your scripts! So long
as there wasn't more than 8 I recall and no more than 3mths supply... And I mean practically anything!

Almost went to jail anyway, but that's another story...lol

And the dr showed you a book with pics, so you just pointed... Then the pharma was across the hall...

Great story Linville... Thanks...

My brother lived in Brownsville a few years ago and had similar stories.  Sounds pretty crazy there.  Do you guys see anything changing anytime soon?  Seems like border patrol can't even begin to keep up.

Wheres this Brownsville place?I want to move there soon as possible, pics in a book to choose from?
Am only joking,aint even got a passport....yet.
Imagine if this drug war was ended and everything was legal, there'd be none of this going on.
Got a friend going over there sometime this year or next can't remember exactly,he goes anywhere there is a solar eclipse.
He told me he is going to fly to Mexico and come up into the US as he thinks it won't be as much hassle as all the security measures that happen at airports on the east coat,is he right thinking this?Or will he still get the Spanish inquisition?
Told me he was going to dress in a I love New york tee shirt,Hawaii shorts, trouble is he has a very dark complexion,he was born in the north of england but looks like an arab, esp if he hasn't shaven, somewhere in his family bloodline he reckons Yasser Arrafatt is a distant relation,if they know that i reckon he will be heavily scrutinized.

God help him if he runs into those 'Oath keepers',been seeing some stuff about them recently, all white men,not one latino, black or anything else but white men with guns,i'd stay well clear of folk like that.

LoL,he isnt trying to do anything like that,he doesnt take anything stronger than his asthma inhaler.
He's just a wee bit paranoid of all the hassle of security at airports,he's a bit of a conspiracey nut, thinks we are watched and snooped on a lot.
I just wondered if for a tourist going to watch the eclipse it would be easier and quicker at the border down south?

thanks for the info fireplaces albeit belated,i shall tell him about what you said, think he told me the eclipse is 2017,WW3 might have wiped us out by then though, world seems to be on fire at the moment, total chaos, war, refugee exodus.
Islamophobia getting worse all over.
I watched the news this morning and saw some guy in a white robe shoot a cop in the arm while he was sat in patrol car.
The cctv was not very clear, just for a moment i thought,is that actually real?Or has it been faked, stir up more hatred towards muslims,i wouldn't put anything past the powerful doing something like that, they are a very devious bunch that seek total control, they'll stop at nothing to get what they want, weapons of mass destruction 45 minutes away, still didn't find them did they?Sure stirred up one hell of a hornets nest though, what a sad mess, right, thanks for the kind thoughts, not having much look of late but it will change ,it always does, swings and roundabouts,I'm off to have a few hours of The Man in The High Castle, its already been shared on the net, going to have to get it watched before it gets taken down,up to episode 4,fascinating,going to have to find some of the writers books, right up my street, enjoy the weekend folks.
