The iPhone snap was taken by tourist guide Francois Collin during a game drive in Kruger National Park.


Camouflaged cat: There's a cheetah hidden among the dry grass - can you spot it?


Believe it or not, there's a big cat hiding in this picture.

Brilliantly camouflaged, the cheetah can be seen standing to the right of the tree, its fur perfectly blending into the dry grass making it almost impossible to spot.

The image was taken by tourist guide Francois Collin from Pretoria, South Africa. Francois, 49, was guiding tourists during a game drive through Kruger National Park when he captured the picture on his iPhone.

He said: "I was guiding some Spanish speaking clients on tour. We were busy that morning with a game drive in the Kruger National Park."


There it is! The cheetah is difficult to make out among the dry grass to the right of a tree.


"I pointed my iPhone and snapped the picture." The cheetah stands in the background to the right of a marula tree, very well camouflaged against the dry grasses.

"It is not a close-up image as it was taken with the iPhone, and the composition of the trees against the sky and grasses being the main focus. I take random pictures of subjects that I find interesting.

I sometimes post them to Facebook, occasionally with a catchy label.

This was one of those posts that looked good after it was posted. This one is hard to see, hence the tongue in cheek labeling of the photo on Facebook as 'spot the cat'.

It's not the first, nor will it be the last such picture that I will have taken and posted on Facebook, I will post more pictures to Facebook but I doubt I'll capture one the same as this again!"

I saw it within a few seconds. The colors match very well but the outline gives it away. I've seen pics that were much harder to pick out. Imagine if your life depended on spotting them every time!

nice camouflage........but cheetah's are fragile fraidy cats....almost anything can run them off their own kills.

I did my own safari's in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.....the only big cats to fear in Africa are the Lions....and an occasional Leopard that may feel cornered, but even Leopards are small compared to the Kings.

Hyenas are very dangerous too. They eat more people than any other animal each year.

That is true..... And it's the females that run the show... Have more force in their jaws than any pitbull.... Eats bone and all!!

Anyway all joking aside it is another example of how mother nature is so interesting.

mosquitos kill more people in Africa than anything.....

but in the animal world...I believe it is the Hippo that is the most dangerous and kills more humans than any other animal......followed by the water Buffalo.

Hard to believe as one does not think of Hippos as that aggressive.

Popster, that is true about the hippos, hard to believe a funny looking animal like that kills so many people. However I said hyenas "eat" more people than any other animal. I worded it that way for a reason.

People have this idea that since they saw dancing hippos in disney cartoons and since they look peaceful, they must be fairly safe and those warnings must be excessive. Even lions hesitate to attack a hippo because one or more of their number may be killed in the attempt. Never approach a hippo, never get between it and water, and never never go near a baby hippo when the mom is around.

Hyenas eat what they kill, unlike a hippo which is vegetarian.
