Daily Thoughts, Random Thoughts, Venting Area
Audrey, my dear friend, I have possibly even less tolerance for micromanagement than you do - I actually worked hard for four months to secure an internal transfer to another division in my firm where I'll be working for the corporate headquarters, reporting to an Executive VP I've known for years - A gentleman 9 o 10 years my senior whose management style is perfect for me - I'm assigned projects, keep him updated on progress, and if he has questions he asks them - No looking over my shoulder and pinging me on instant messenger every 15 minutes to make sure I'm at my desk.  It's bad when your boss is replaced by someone 20 years your junior, hired from outside the firm, and you weren't even considered for promotion to that position after 8 years of perfect attendance and enormous success with very difficult projects - I could have handled the age difference, but I won't work for a youngster straight out of grad school who thinks he knows my job better than I do, although he's never done anything remotely like it in his life.

Unfortunately, my current position is customer facing, rather than internal facing as my new one will be, so policy is that I can't just give two weeks notice - I found out today that even though I'm selected for the new job, it will be June 1 before I can start it...Have to finish the projects I'm currently working, as my team is severely understaffed.

Don't take any guff from the micromanagers dear Audrey...We may not be able to punch them in the neck, although that's my first instict, but we don't have to let them ruin our lives either.  I hope you're able to successfully fend off those who make work a misery.  It is, unfortunately, work, and we all have to pay bills, but I think we have a responsibility to put ourselves and our needs above those of our employers at times, especially if your health or your family life is being affected.

Wow Audrey that is just wrong. Sometimes bosses in their lives forget who the people are tha make them look good.. and see only their sense of power... Think it is ok to disrespect the ones that make them look good. All in fun... but the serious employees take it differently.
