Charon's Day! ...er...
Love Litigating Lawyers Day

[Image: love-litigating-lawyers-day1-e1436340905661-808x378.jpg]

When I checked the assignment sheet for today I had to laugh! I just knew the boss was playing some sort of weird joke on me. You see...today is Love Litigating Lawyers Day, formerly known as Lawyer Appreciation Day.

Strange as it might seem, I had alot of trouble researching this topic. I found countless lawyer jokes, none of them loving though. There were many horror stories, but none showing appreciation.

In 1993 the first Lawyer Appreciation Day was held, however, the turnout was not favorable. In order to love litigating lawyers, you must first know what a litigating lawyer is.

A litigating attorney is one who sees a law suit through the court process. While some attorneys prefer to settle out of court,, others practice Criminal law, litigators focus exclusively on law suits.

Litigators usually practice in personal injury cases. These cases take a long time, and are very detailed. Most work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they don't get paid unless they win your case. If they win, then they get a percentage anywhere between 25 to 45%. If a lawyer takes your case, they are pretty certain they can win and award in your favor.

The reason I found this topic so amusing is because for the past 15 years my SO and I have had to deal with several attorneys over her worker's compensation injury. But, that is another story for another day.

While researching this topic, I found several Lawyer jokes, which made me think lawyers are not well loved.

However there are some lawyers who have claimed public affections.

Some of these include:
  • Perry Mason
  • Matlock
  • Ally McBeal

Television shows such as:
  • Law and Order
  • Criminal Intent
  • Special Victims Unit
  • The Practice
  • Boston Legal
      • Jag
      • Judging Amy

      Movies such as:
      • A few good Men
      • My Cousin Vinny
      • The Lincoln Lawyer
      • The Firm
      • The Rainmaker
      • A Time to Kill

Of course these are just a small few, and there are new ones out all the time. The truth is, while lawyers may not be loved, when you find yourself in trouble, they are good to have on your side. So while you may not love a litigating lawyer today, try to muster up a little “Like” for them.

Yummy trail mix looks good.

And Way to go for Charon getting in on a today is day....

Ice your pictures are always do good.
Thank you Ice. Jimje will be back once he conquers that dagnabbit Bar Exam.

Both my father and I would be hard pressed to have Loved other attorneys once we saw the corruption in my county.

But, when one finds a good attorney whom will help you Pro Bono, for free, or whom really fights for you because they believe in Honor and Justice still, then you will always appreciate that attorney.

Lots of jokes. Morning, all.

Letter Writing Day

For hundreds of years communication took place through just a couple of ways, you either sat down and had a conversation with someone or you wrote your thoughts and feelings down on a letter and had it delivered to them by courier.

The nature of letters made them incredibly intimate, as each carried the indelible mark of its creator. Everything from the subtle scents of your home and perfume, to snippings from your garden could be included in a mailed letter.

Digital media just doesn’t quite carry the same personal level as this old method, and Letter Writing Day is your opportunity to remember the wonders of the hand-written word.

History of Letter Writing Day

World Letter Writing Day was established by Richard Simpkin as a tribute to the joy and excitement he felt when a hand-written letter would arrive in his mailbox.

His appreciation of the hand-written word came about as a result of a project he was working on called “Australian Legends”, he would send out letters to everyone he considered to be an Australian Legend with the interest of arranging a personal interview and photography session.

There was just something amazing about receiving a letter with the legends own personal touch to it, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that while hand-written letters are collectible, digital communication certainly is not.

Emma M Nutt Day

Long ago, in 1878, the first telephone operator started working for the Boston Telephone Dispatch Company. What image do you have in your mind when you think of a phone operator? Clean white blouse, sensible ankle length skirt, and a friendly female voice? You may be surprised that the first operator was a man, in fact all of the first ones were. But their reign wasn’t to last, in September of 1878 Emma M Nutt became the first female phone operator, and from that point forward it’s been a woman’s industry.

Emma M Nutt Day celebrates this pioneer and all she and her fellow operators have done for communication since!

History of Emma M Nutt Day

As mentioned above, the first operators were all boys, and while we’re not huge fans of the phrase ‘boys will be boys’ in modern parlance, it was definitely something that was well believed back in the early days of telephone.

Boys who were put in the position of telephone operators exhibited a basic lack of patience, and behaviors that included pranks and cussing, which just wouldn’t do for the people who were supposed to be the friendly voice of a telephone operator.

So it was that Emma M Nutt came to join the New England Telephone Company, and whose cultured, gentle voice set the standard for what an operator was supposed to sound like.

She was a true rock star at what she did too, working a 54-hour week at a rate of $10 a month and memorizing every number in the New EnglandTelephone Company directory.

She then went on to work for the company for between 33 and 37 years, ultimately retiring. For a few years she even worked alongside her sister Stella Nutt, creating the first sister pair of operators in history too!

V-J Day

Following the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Emperor Hirohito announced Japan’s acceptance to the Potsdam Declaration and surrendered on 15th August 1945, effectively marking the end of World War II.

However, the official surrender ceremony did not occur until over two weeks later, and thus President Truman marked 2nd September as the official V- J Day.

It is estimated that anywhere from 60 to 80 million people died during World War II, on all sides of the conflict. V-J Day should be seen as not only the celebration of the defeat of the tyrannical Japanese government of the time, but also the remembrance of those who lost their lives.

Bring Your Manners To Work Day

[Image: VIDEO-IMAGE-Daily-Holiday---Bring-Your-M...rk-Day.jpg]

Many of us spend more time at work than at home, so it’s really important to have fulfilling relationships both with colleagues and customers.

Bring Your Manners To Work Day was created by The Protocol School of Washington to remind people of the importance of treating people with courtesy and respect in the workplace.

Everyone should practice good manners, whether at work or at home, and common bad manners at work include things like loud ringtones, not cleaning up after yourself and polite conversation.

Although Bring Your Manners To Work Day is just one day of the year, it doesn’t mean you should only be polite at work for one day. Use the day as a reminder of the importance of good manners every day of the year, and you may well find good manners help to open the doors to new opportunities in the workplace.
