Fight Procrastination Day
Quote:“I never put off till tomorrow what I can possibly do — the day after.”
― Oscar Wilde
Procrastination can really be the bane of our existence, with another day coming around the corner, there’s no real reason that we can’t put it off till tomorrow is there? Of course not, and tomorrow has another tomorrow, so let’s do it again!
It is by this way of thinking that absolutely nothing gets done, and we know good and well that procrastination is us out to get ourselves.
But what can we do?
Fight Procrastination Day reminds us that it’s up to us to beat this monster, and only we can decide to get up and get done today what was supposed to be done.
History of Fight Procrastination Day
Fight Procrastination Day tells us to get up in arms and start battling the age old beast that is “putting things off”.
There are a million techniques to battle it, but procrastination is decidedly an epic level raid monster, and sometimes it seems like a concerted effort of us and our most efficient friends is the only thing that will put it down. The fight against procrastination has been going on a long time, and there have been some really creative methods created to fight it, all to varying success.
What kind of crazy techniques?
How about Victor Hugo and James Riley choosing to write naked so it wasn’t a simple matter to head out to drink with the boys at the local pub? Not necessarily a universally practical method, but it definitely has its high points.
Then there are modern versions that are truly remarkable, programs that you download onto your computer that act as a filter according to the rules you set up… Ya know, like if you work at home and want to use it to control your behavior during work hours?
And
Another Look Unlimited Day
Planning to throw a load of old junk away? Stop! Another Look Unlimited Day encourages you to take another look through what you’re getting rid of to identify things which could be donated to charity, given to friends, or recycled in another way.

Superhuman Day
For years those who faced the challenges of disability in all its forms dealt with a stigma that was forced on them, that they were somehow less capable of doing amazing and, dare we say it, Superhuman things.
Superhuman Day celebrates and brings awareness to the thousands of athletes, musicians, artists, and everyday people who have overcome what was once perceived as a crippling limitation and gone on to prove that “Yes I Can”
History of Superhuman Day
Superhuman Day was the brainchild of the fantastic people at Channel 4 to highlight the incredible athletes at the Summer Paralympic Games.
In 2016 Channel 4 took the place of the official broadcaster for the Paralympics for the second time, and immediately decided to start bringing these unsung heroes and champions of the great human achievements into the limelight.
It all started with their advertising campaign “We’re The Superhumans”, featuring 140 people with disabilities who are working to change society’s attitudes towards them.
The Paralympics have been running since 1948, though they weren’t called that then. This athletic event was put together to give World War II Veteran Patients with Spinal Injuries a chance to compete, and were called the “1948 International Wheelchair games”.
But in 1960 the Paralympics were officially established, and no longer simply open to WWII vets. In that event 400 athletes from 23 countries competed, which quickly grew to 1600 athletes from 40 countries in 1976.
One of the most important events in the Paralympics occurred in 1988 in Seoul, South Korea. The Paralympics were held immediately after the Olympic Summer Games, in both the same host city and using the same facilities. In 2001, the International Paralympic Committee and the International Olympic Committee cemented this practice as tradition, and so it has been ever since.

Teddy Bear Day
The teddy bear is one of the most popular toys for children, and holds a special place in many adults hearts, too. This lovable stuffed animal has a day all of its own, Teddy Bear Day.
It gives a chance for people to get teddy out of the cupboard and make him the center of attention. It’s an ideal time to get together with others for a teddy bear’s favorite activity, having a picnic, as immortalized in the classic song, ‘Teddy Bear’s Picnic.’
This was written in 1907, shortly after teddy bears were first manufactured in Europe and America. The American toy bears were named Teddy, in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt, who had refused to shoot a small captured bear on a hunting trip.
Many teddy bears have become famous over the years, including Paddington Bear, Rupert Bear, Pudsey Bear and, of course, Winnie the Pooh.
And

World Suicide Prevention Day
There’s been a rising epidemic in the US, and that epidemic is suicide. If we don’t know someone who had committed suicide, it’s almost certain that we know someone who has attempted it.
Suicide is a problem that effects all age groups, genders, and social strata, and it seems sometimes to be utterly inescapable.
World Suicide Prevention Day raises awareness about this tragic issue and works to prevent it through education and support of those who struggle with suicidal ideation every day.
History of World Suicide Prevention Day
It’s a tragic situation, with the death toll coming in at 42,773 people committing suicide each year in the United States alone, and for each one of those 25 people made the attempt.
Over the world it’s even greater, an estimated 800,000 people commit suicide each year throughout the world, which is one every 40 seconds.
What’s incredible is that just like the US statistic, it’s estimated that 25 times that attempt it, 4 million people over the world every year.
There’s something of a ripple down effect that happens as well, those bereaved by the loss of a loved one to suicide are themselves more likely to commit suicide. Thankfully there are organizations like the World Health Organization who fight to combat this epidemic.
With the philosophy of ‘Connect, Communicate, Care’ they work to create a world in which suicide rates are reduced or even eliminated.
And
Swap Ideas Day
The exact origins of Swap Ideas Day are unknown. However, it is believed that the creator of this day is Robert Birch.
This was not his only unusual idea as he is also thought to have invented several other strange celebrations including Lumpy Rug Day, Trivia Day and the bizarrely named Nothing Day.
The idea behind Swap Ideas Day is that everybody gets together to exchange ideas. People celebrate this occasion by connecting with other people to share thoughts and concepts.
There are no rules outlining the nature of the ideas to be shared, thus making Swap Ideas Day an ideal opportunity for people to be as creative and wacky as they like with their ideas as well as learning from the ideas of others.
