Benzodiazepine Withdrawal support
#51
What type of B3nzo and how much milligrams of said B3nzo are you folks taking daily?
...obviously you do not have to answer, your choice...

If you do answer, answer in code so g00gle doesn't see in.

I'll go first (I've said it a few places on here before):

10mg D1az3pam each day. 5mg AM, 5mg PM.

Something to look for if you are going for a taper with very small steps, is whether the diazepam has a split/break line on it. Medication that is designed to be broken in half has the active ingredient more evenly distributed in the pill. Pills that are not intended to be snapped in half do not necessarily have to conform to the same standards when it comes to distribution of active ingredient within the pill. The majority of diazepam pills do have a break line, but not all. This is also a good reason to stay away from bathtub "street" diazepam, and if possible stick with the same source/manufacturer throughout.

thanks for the heads up braq. I think that happened to me, and I had aways thought the pills were inconsistent. But they didn't have score marks, so probably were just not meant to be boken.

Proportionately is the key word here guys if you don't understand the meaning, find out and understand it. This is not a flippant comment. Peace n serenity to all.

I have read positive and negative things about lyrica.
More positive than negative (esp. when used as a benzo taper)
Definitely one to seriously consider Smile

I take the same as you, but 15mgs daily, 1 x per day, always at night. Usually about 8pm or so. I've tapered down from a much higher dose that I was taking. I've found it very difficult to get below 15mgs tho. I can drop to 10 or 12.5mgs for a day or so but the rebound anxiety hits hard on the second day.
I had to ct once and it was hell. Not doing that again...

I have 'quit' cold-turkey about 4 times over 10 years. with alprazolam, I experience no w/d whatsoever except a little anxiety and sometimes wake up in the middle of the night sweating-this would usually last only a week or so. After that, nothing. Only a psychological craving to have some if I'm going to be in a social situation with strangers since I only have social anxiety and not much else.

With diazepam it's roughly the same, except I would taper down to about 20 mg per day and then just stop. Of course I exercise about 5 times a week so I think, at least for me, the magic comes from constantly making my body produce endorphins to help compensate for the loss of them after I would stop taking the benzos, and of course, valium has the longest half life so by the time it was finally out of my system I would already feel back to my old self.

The only benzo that gave me terrible w/d was clonazepam, and despite exercise, drinking lots of water, getting my electrolytes-after stopping cold turkey I spent a good 6-7 days puking my brains out. Stomach would not hold down any food and eventually I started throwing up so much I couldn't even sip water without throwing up 3 times the amount of liquid. Lost about 15 lbs. in one week but the 'flu' finally subsided and once everything was out of my system I stayed away from benzos for about 4 months before starting Xanax again.

I consider myself one of the lucky ones because at the time I was unaware that the w/d could actually lead to death. Best advice is do a slow taper on valium and make sure you are exercising and drinking lots of fluids, water, Gatorade, etc.

And I don't think most people understand when others say exercise. It needs to be INTENSE exercise where you SWEAT and are exhausted by the end of a workout, because that is the feeling that gets your own endorphins getting back into your system. Jogging around the block a couple times a week won't cut it. I know it's hard when you already feel like crap, but that's what it takes in my opinion.

I hope it works for me.
I fully plan on replacing Diaz with exercise.

I wish I could exercise enough to do it that way. Unfortunately with some serious back issues I can't push myself nearly as hard as I'd like, but still try to get at least some general cardio in as much as possible.
For me I'll just have to keep working on a slow taper. Liquid oral Diaz would really help I think, being able to drop a single mg at a time, but probably very expensive if you could find it. Ah well, I'll work thru it soon enough
