I would take it personal, Charon. Eveyone knows ET doesn't like women. He prefers male dominate Romanians.

Good idea to go private/invite only once there is a larger amount of people registered which hopefully won't take too long.
Lets just keep our eyes open for you know who and his shit stirring slaves.

Good point, Harley. We gotta keep the Off Topic far from our vendor threads. Other important threads.

We want people to be able to jump on, get the needed info, and then jump off.

I cannot believe we had to wade thru 8 pages of rules because people, including me, kept chatting about the rules. They were not proposed rules. They were rules. That thread drove me crazy.

Not to mention fireplaces insists on remaining On Topic. We gotta keep our Harley and fireplaces happy.

Okay? Lets keep our (mine) Off Topics off the vendor/announcement/imperative threads.

I agree that other private boards, that may be funnels to one vendor, are like dead wastelands because there are not enough people on those boards using other vendors and posting about it.
People come to these places for information and for sharing information and because after you hang around for a year or two you make many online friends you want to stay in contact with.
So having a good amount of users before going private might be best.

Right now I would suggest hiding the good stuff from non logged in people who happen by the site.
I was surprised I could see the SY vendors when I came here as a non registered user.

Maybe a Private and Invite Only section might be good.
For sure I do not post much on other sites because of not knowing who snuck in or who is there when there are so many flakes you prefer to distance yourself from.

This does make perfect sense to me as well ... To limit how lookie loos view the site may,at very least, get some to enlist and maybe even contribue the places they have gotten good results as well as bad ....
If they can obtain all the info without being a member, what's the incentive to even become a member, let alone contribute anything ...

Well ... That's my take on the matter ...
I'm just sayin ...

I believe you have to have something for them to see to draw, hopefully Good People into the forum. Even those we refer here need to feel there is value.

I suggested to Charon awhile back that maybe the view 5 posts or so and then limit access with an option requesting the looker sign up as other forums have may be a solution.

As we are building a new forum I just don't think it would be to our advantage to block all information. Private forums need a strong user base to work successfully and we are not there yet. I belong to Private forums and I have seen dead ones with few updates and another that thrives.

It just takes time...

Very wise indeed ... It does all take time and we do want to attract good members ... I have been to sites that let you see X number of pages per day without signing up ... Kinda gives you the incentive to do so, if the content you're reading is worth it ...

Myself ... I'm just proud to be a small part of a wonderful site ... Anything I can do, well I'd be glad to do ... Everybody here has been more than helpful to me and for that I will surely do my best for this place ....

If you want to draw people to the forum, you add more good and reputable vendors. The bad will come with the good and it's an impossible task to weed them out when they apply as the bad ones will lie. In time they show themselves and will be banned.

Zander is correct, even with the referral process, some innocent member referrs another member from lets say another forum they may not know a member has been problematic in the past, only see posts and not nasty vicious PM's/emails that other members have received.

We are way to small and not enough vendors to go private yet. Getting there tho, if Charon would create some more fake account and throw in a few fake vendors. JK She knows I'm kidding. Heart

((((Zander)))) good to see you today. Heart
