Panic attacks and alcohol
#51
I also tried to fight off my anxiety disorder using alcohol, was a very uncomfortable time.
It took me a long time with a psychiatrist to get it stable...ish

Pregabalin was the first med that seemed to really make a difference.
The key is to mix meds with therapy, cognitive behaviour.

Escitalopram is good for anxiety also. The doctor will usually try and get a person to settle for Citalopram , get the Es Citalopram, it is 5x stronger the therapeutic dose.

Mixed with my prescription for diazepam makes the world back to normal. I hope the combination could do the same for someone else in distress.

Good for you oxford. Proud of you. See? There is always hope for all.

Never touched it. Just helped a couple get off it. But, alcohol scares me. I think the average PTSD person, or chronically anxious person should be allowed to use the tried and true benzo that works on them.

Lord have mercy the majority of us here have not ever, or recently abused a darn thing. It is just so hard to live without the medicine that worked so well for us before all the laws changed. And, doctors got so scared.

In some parts of the US it is very difficult to book an appointment with a psychiatrist, most in my area are treating children with ADHD and people with profound mental illness, like suicidal depression, psychosis etc.. They seem to have no time for the panic attack, anxiety disorder types, or are interested in prescribing some awful mood stabilizer, in my limited experience.

Too true! In Maine, there is an acute shortage of psychiatrists. I put in FEB 27TH for help with adult add and panic attacks and just now have an appointment next week. (Aug 29). I was able to fill in with the great advice and help I get from this organization but it has been  a struggle. I finally had to call and complain that it was CRIMINAL to have people with mental problems untreated this long. If not for that, I'd still be waiting.
