Hi everyone!! I'm looking for some feedback on what antidepressants people have had success with. Some I have tried are Cymbalta, Wellbutrin, Effexor (though I may have not given this one enough time to work), and Lexapro. My Dr prescribed Trintillex recently but it was denied by my insurance and I am in the process of appealing. My diagnosis is Major Depressive Disorder. My biggest symptoms being chronic fatigue and lack of desire to do anything or go anywhere. Everything is a pyhsical struggle and feels exhausting...even a simple shower. Most antidepressants Ive tried make me more tired, which only increases my Depressive symptoms and I haven't had much success with these meds boosting how hopeless and uninterested in life I feel. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or feedback!! Thanks so much to anyone that shares their experiences with me!!

The best one I have ever been on is prozac, at the time I did not thinK i was depressed but they really helped me and I actually felt happy and optimistic, sadly prozac stops working after a short time and my GP will not let me back on them.

Thank You yellowdog and I'm sorry they won't let you back on them...it seems ridiculous if you know they indeed worked for you!! It's very frustrating!! Did you feel like it gave you the energy to get out of bed and get going? When I do pull myself out of bed I accomplish 1 thing and feel like it took everything I had out of me and I'm right back in bed. It's not the life I want and I feel like I'm failing my 4 kids.

I do believe there are some other threads discussing this same thing .
You may want to look into searching around a little.
If I remember them or run into one whilst on the forum I will post a link here.
Or others may do that too. We have many with similar struggles so I hope that you can connect with someone or a thread that can help you . Really I do.
Hoping so for ya Arilex.
Good Luck BTW.

Hey Arilex!
I'm sorry to hear you are struggling with depression. finding the right antidepressant can be such a long hard battle. How long usually have you been on each? It usually takes about 4-6 weeks usually for an antidepressant to start working, sometimes longer. This makes it difficult too to try to give each one time to be effective. SSRI's are what work usually for most people; I am not one of those people though -- I take venlafaxine. Zoloft is a pretty good SSRI that I've heard good things about. You could also look into adding some kind of synergistic drug with it like abilify. I use seroquel (pretty sedative so I take it at night) but it has really worked well for me. I hope you find something that works well for you!

Edit Reason: clarification
)
I hate to sound cliche, but aerobics/cardio exercise in addition to whatever you need (if possible, I know some people cannot due to disability). Take the time to just power walk 30 minutes with your dog or good friend or music. But make sure you stay at a decent heart rate. Don't stay low and expect anything but burning some calories. Really get in to it and you'll see. There's science out there that shows it releases dopamine to make you feel better.
If you can't do the power walk, take a 1 or 2 pound weight if possible and find some aerobic exercises online. My grandfather lost his legs to diabetes back in the early 2000's because he got depressed after his wife, my grandmother, passed, and really ate horribly. They gave him 6 months to live. He didn't pass until last year. Lost 70 pounds (not just legs, bad pun!) by dieting with a proper diabetes diet and doing arm/core exercises. And this was all in his bed as he obviously couldn't get up and move around. Keep in mind, we had to make him do it the first year or so but after that, it kind of became "his" thing and contribution to the family (he lived at home with us) so he didn't feel like a burden. I swear it turned him around. That, and surround yourself with great people, like those on this board.
Rant over.

I gave most of the ones I tried a good 2-3 months or more before jumping ship. I gave Lexapro the longest and increased dosing but I just wasn't improving and it made me even more tired which greatly increases my depression as my biggest battle is I feel like I'm missing life, time with my kids, putting too much on my husband and it's all time I will never get back and that weighs so heavily on me. Wellbutrin seemed to be the only one that gave me a slight boost in energy but it also came with some side effects like jitters that I could not tolerate since I also suffer from anxiety. I see a therapist weekly and he has me moving in baby steps like walking the dog everyday but it is a struggle. I know exercise would help, it is suggested everywhere but I just don't feel strong enough to get to that point yet. I'm at the barely getting out of bed to shower point. I get myself together enough to put on a brace face and look decent right before my kids get home from school, do homework, make dinner, and crawl back to bed until it's time to get them ready for bedtime. I know antidepressants are not a miracle but I am desperately seeking something that could at least get me enough energy and will to do the things that could help me like exercise and outings. Has anyone had any experience with Trintillex? I think it is fairly new.

Same to me. But Prozac killed my libido
Try others like Tianeptine ( to weak ) and wellbutrin ( a nightmare , if you have some anxiety problem, stay away for it , and if you have insomnia, don't even touch it ) .
Alternative, if you have insomnia, Trazodone could be also a good choice.
A friend of my take Cymbalta, and she is great with it .

Hi Arilex,
I understand your lethargy, feelings of "what's the point," and chronic lack of motivation and fatigue. I hope you find some answers and comfort here. It's a terrible feeling not to want to leave your house or do anything.
For years I have been on Wellbutrin. Along with the Wellb I cycle between Prozac and Zoloft , each lasting about 1 1/2-2 years. When one stops working my psych puts me back on the other. She had me try Trintillex, but it did nothing. I also take Lamictal, which she added a little while back. She said she should have thought of the Lam before. Really?? (sarcasm) I can tell when either Proz or Zol is beginning to stop doing its job. I start feeling like nothing is worth the effort. Overall this combo has been pretty effective for me.
I hope your insurance company works with you. And that you find some relief. Best to you.
