Wow looks like bad design or not waiting for the concrete to cure before use and putting weight on it.
So sad

Wow, what is it about Florida? I know that they are one of the most populous states but, even given that fact, they still seem to have a disproportionate amount of tragedy. Seems like everything happens there.

The bridge 'supposedly' able to withstand a Category 5 Hurricane - collapsed after six days before it was ever open for use ?

Why wasn't road closed while they "stress tested" and finished this bridge?
They close roads for Everything!
They didn't have the posts under middle of it yet.
Also, heard on news the metal "lines' were slack and so being adjusted, tv expert said that if over-tightened these metal 'strings' could cause the bridge to snap in half...
Said in about a week investigators will have some answers about what happened.

Good Thing it was Spring Break and many not on campus or more probably would probably be harmed.

How Horrible!
condolences to family/friends of those involved in this needless tragedy

hey master thief - my little brother lives in Florida, I know how people in Florida are...!

I saw this briefly on the news over here but didnt really hear what was being said.
So it was only 6 days old and not really stress tested, someones been taking short cuts maybe trying to meet a deadline or get it finished as cheaply as possible, sounds a little like the companies in the UK who were using cheaper cladding on tower blocks but the cheaper ones were seriously flammable, people only learnt of that when all the people died when a tower block went up in flames.
Some person or persons will need to be brought to account over something like this, very sad esp if it could have been avoided.
