LOL, our Russian Blue (or rather MY Russian Blue, cats are strange creatures, he seems to have adopted me immediately when we picked him up from Rescue years ago, and while he'll accept petting from my wife, he sits in my lap while I'm watching TV at night...Him on one side, and our Chihuahua on the other, while our Maine Coone sticks to my wife like glue and only tolerates me when I feed them their wet food a couple of nights a week) "sleeps" with me.  The problem is, he doesn't stay asleep...Several times a night I wake up to him gently biting my nose or mashing his head against my face, demanding a few minutes of petting before he'll settle down again.  He's a fairly old cat now, 10 years or so, so I don't have the heart to spray him with a water bottle or toss him off the bed, I just accede to his demands and he lets me go back to sleep.

Update to add: I have slept soundly for 7 hours straight the past two nights - While almost any Pharma grade Valium makes it easier for me to sleep, Bensedine, it seems, is what my body likes best.  10mg at 9PM and I'm sound asleep by 10PM.  I'm going to have to ration it, of course, lest I build a tolerance...But for tough nights, I'm relieved to have finally found something that works.

I was really, really hoping I wouldn't have to resort to this, but over the past week I've been taking my Temazepam (30mg) 30 minutes before bedtime, then 10mg of Valium when I go to bed, and I haven't had a sleep interruption episode since.  I feel much better of course, but this isn't a long term solution - If I do this every night I'll just build up a tolerance to Valium and have to increase that dosage as time goes by...not something I want to do, as after 11 years of prescribed 2-3mg Xanax I'm already hopelessly addicted to it, and I certainly don't want to become addicted to another benzo as well.

Anyhow, it is short term relief, which I've desperately needed for months now, I won't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Hey B2G, did you try Doxylamine yet? (AKA Unisom, AKA Kirkland sleep aid)
We discussed it on page 2.

Hey I_S, good to see you.  I actually had my counterpart in the UK for one of the larger dollar value projects I'm trying to push out the door before I transfer to Corporate send me a box (arrived in 3 days, believe it or not) - It is very nice for getting to sleep, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to resolve the problem I have with waking up at 2 or 3AM and trying to force myself back to sleep.  I gave it to my wife, and she absolutely loves it, she's been using ZZZQuil for sleepless nights, but she tells me the Kirkland doesn't leave her groggy in the morning, and works just as well as the ZZZQuil in getting her to sleep and keeping her asleep.

So thank you for that suggestion, it appears that if you're ever in our neck of the woods you are owed a home cooked dinner!

Hey....Ah, Damn, that's unfortunate.
I'm happy it has helped your wife though.
I must admit, since my last post on this thread, I have discovered and had great success with melatonin.
I must also admit...but not recommend...that I have found Doxylamine with Melatonin has put me back to a 7 hour, per night, EVERY NIGHT, man.

I wish you luck my man.

Ironically I discussed melatonin (in the brain producing way)

Thanks I_S, I could use a bit of luck right now, but even were I not afraid that the god of the Lone Star state would frown upon me for asking for some, I see so many others here that need it more than I do that I'm ashamed to even mention it Smile

My youngest daughter swears by Melatonin, she started using it during her senior year of high school and continues to use it now she's a senior at University.  I'm glad it works for her, I'd much rather she rely on something OTC rather than controlled, but I suspect it won't work forever...She and my son (our oldest child who gave me my first of what I hope will be many grandchildren last year) seem to have the same affliction I do, while my oldest daughter sleeps long and deeply every night without fail.

Well, at least I got something useful accomplished during tonight's bout of sleep interruption, my PCs and iPhone are now equipped with a top of the line VPN package.  Poor Charon is going to wonder if there's someone spoofing my account, and I hate to increase her workload, but I think this last addition to my security suite (GPG4Win, Tor with a nice bridge, and now a VPN) should keep me a bit safer than I have been to date - I also created a Protonmail account strictly for use while "shopping".

Hope my fellow insomniacs are sleeping soundly, and dreaming sweetly.

Best,

Yeah, this is a bad one - Still awake at 5AM, and with the PC maintenance taken care of I'm packing for my trip to Fort Lewis tomorrow.  Ugh, have to wear a suit and tie...

I've been awake all night but I didn't get anything useful accomplished....       Sad

Feel tiired but cannot sleep.
How frustrating!  Tried everything I could think to do that usually helps.
Bedtime meds didn't help at all last night.

My neighbor just bought buy beagles and caged them near property line (away from his house & next to mine)
Dogs barking non-stop day and night now.  Feel sorry for them in those little cages but hate the barking.
The other neighbor now has a chained pit bull that acts aggressively everytime we go outside.
I almost completed certification as Animal Behavioral Specialist before injured and dogs love me most of time, even ones that aren't usually friendly.   When I worked Hospice they used to assign patients with pets to me.

This pit bull is dangerous IMHO.  He wants to advance on me but can't because of chain - hope he doesn't break it.
I've tried over past few months to "woo" him, but he reminds me of a chow my friend had to put down for attacking children.
My labs were 80-120 lbs American style labs and just 80 lb female snapped my dad's huge chain used to pull cars, etc.
Dad couldn't believe how strong my dogs were.  He has a border collie - very smart dog but smaller.

Privacy fence, yes I'm getting one - won't help the barking but maybe if my cat doesn't see them he'll quit jumping on me everytime I do manage to go to sleep! Cat is not liking beagles at all, sits in window complaining, and generally misbehaving...  sigh

What luck!  I buy new place and there are no dogs around.  Nice quiet location slightly in the country. Or so I thought it would be.
Few months later dogs barking on both sides of me?  Thankfully, only a corn field in back so no one can put a dog behind me.
I've had labrador retrievers most my life, but can't walk to exercise one anymore,  I miss them very much.
then I found this dying kitten - except he didn't die and now I've become an "old lady with a cat"  LOL

I was reading about how chronic insomnnia shortens a person's lifespan, about 10 years. Yal are so informed, you probably know that already.
Must say, when I go 2-3 days w/o sleep  I do feel like I'm about to die.
(laughing but not really funny)

So glad this forum has a thread "open all night" for us insomniacs.  Hope yal don't mind if I visit here occasionally?
Smile

Thank you.   To my fellow insomniacs, hope you get a good night's rest tonight.
