I read that PTSD should NOT be treated with benzo's. That was from WebMD. heh... But Whatever, I don't care. I'd take anything as long as it helps!

Triggers hurt me the most.. Seeing a happy couple. even tiny little things.. can ruin my entire day.. Because then my mind thinks about them non-stop.

But to be honest.. You cant take benzo's to long before you have a tolerance, they build REALLY fast.. my solution, take different types Smile and also take breaks where you take the bare minimum.

I'm diagnosed with PTSD.. Sucks but what can you do? Just live life the best you can. My only successful method is fake it till you make it- in other words force yourself to be happy, until you actually are..- The author Malcolm Gladwell suggests this is a good strategy in life..in the book - "Blink" Hes a social sociologist and epidemiologist.

Thank you all very much and yes my PTSD is combat related. I have been using alpraz for a while now honestly because they work and work fast. But also like you guys said the duration sucks so i think I will give Kpins or Val a shot. What do you think of keeping some alpraz on hand for really bad episodes? Also the VA keeps insisting on putting me on SSRI  and with all the horror storied i hear about them I am terrified to try them. Again thank you guys for the input it is much appreciated.

Taken before sleep as u get very sleepy but no Hangover next Day.But i do have vals and klpin for the bad days..very rare use fx. Xannies.. Thank you very much for the advice. Unfortunately I have been taking the alpz far to long and i don't think i could stop even if i wanted to. i am definitely going to take your advice though and try to back off the heavy use of alp and go with the longer duration benz. And I will keep you in my prayers. I would take your PTSD upon myself if i could my friend. God Bless

I would as everyone said, switch to a longer acting benzo. I have used xanax extensively and it's incredibly effective but your whole day will revolve around it. I have never exceeded 2mg of xanax in a day. I am not an abuser. I usually take .5mg three times a day. Sometimes I need a 4th dose. It's just the ups and downs are terrible. It's a great feeling when it kicks in and just gets rid of my nightmare anxiety without sedating me much. I have used Klonopin recently and am still debating as to whether or not it's better for me than xanax. I like the fact that I can time it better and not get that nasty rebound anxiety if I don't take the med. I know I have used both sublingually and orally and I find that taking these pills with any sort of food in the tummy certainly reduces their effectiveness so having said that, I often was keeping myself hungry just to take the xanax. With klonopin I can eat normally. I do think the xanax more cleanly wipes out my anxiety but I enjoy the convenience of klonopin. I will have to decide which is more important to me. Regardless, allways switch up the benzos periodically to keep tolerance down. And I do recommend long acting benzos simply because you don't have to have your who day revolving around them. Perhaps xanax xr would be good but thats one I havent tried.
