Society promotes good health as the holy grail of life--the key to happiness.

Medical profession creates many medicines to assist in this.

Including those meds (supposedly) acting on the chemical source(s) of happiness itself.

But if a patient shows a wisp of emotional need to continue taking a medicine...

then we label the medicine a narcotic; restrict access to it; call the patient aberrant...

and finally conclude the patient has a new disease (in need of further treatment, with more medicine).

Politics - yes, definitely agree. If you are white collar then it is "tolerance", if you are blue collar then it is "addiction". Same applies if you are a member of any minority/lower status group e.g. based on race, sexuality, etc.
