Hello all,
I'm inquiring on the subject of you keeping or not keeping a daily journal or diary to record your thoughts, ideas, experiences in, etc. I have personally found it to be very helpful. I have written less lately but still try to maintain a steady schedule. I find that in a very mild way it relieves anxiety by allowing you to get all those racing thoughts down on paper and hopefully, at least partially, out of your head. If you do, how often do you write in it? Do you enjoy keeping it or is it more of a tool for you? Thank you.

It's never too late to start fishfarmer. The benzo trap is dangerous, they're highly addictive chemicals. Best of luck to you. PM if you want to chat.

Howdy, my good friends, G-Man and FF!
I have kept one since I was a teen. My journals have served me well over the course of my life. When I was going through my most anxious and depressed times, they helped GROUND me. You know when your mind is spinning and you are flirting with depersonalization, but not quite there? That's when I like to sit down and read about better times in my journals. I can also go back and read about times I thought that the end of my life was imminent, and then never really came. It gives me a place to blow off steam, even if I am the only one who will read what I write. On the more practical side, my journals help me document dates and times of events in my life and friends often come to me to ask me to go look in them to see if I made a note of the date that something occurred that interested them. Anyhow, I am so glad that I have kept up with them over the years. Have a great night, guys. RM

I've been thinking a lot recently about keeping a journal. Partly because I'm building a nice fountain pen collection and want to use them! But also to aid sleep, writing down thoughts and worries etc. My main concern is other people finding and reading it, there might be tings I would 'confess' in a journal that I want to keep completely private. I know I should trust my partner would not read it if she found it, but how do I know for sure? I don't keep many secrets per se but there is one big one Wouldn't want to share (or at least not be found by reading a journal). I suppose I could keep the 'secret' stuff out but to me that would defeart the purpose of a journal.
Hmmmmm.

I agree with Zebra. I'd like to keep a journal, but don't want to self-incriminate. It isn't so much the legal issues because I've never done anything that bad, but more to do with embarrassment.
Whenever I hear someone keeps a journal I'm always impressed and feel like I want to do the same. I've never ended up doing it, although I have written out thoughts that I later deleted/destroyed.
