Diverticulitis Surgery
#1
Just wondering if anyone here had to go through what I did.  Had chronic pain aggravated by stress in my lower left abdomen for many years.  My doctor would rx tramadol for pain but never put me on antibiotics.  In january I awoke in severe pain; felt like I'd been shot in the stomach.  I took the day off and lay on the couch moaning in pain all day like a fool.  Finally that night I drove myself to the emergency room and was told I needed surgery right now or I would soon die.  Had a part of my colon removed.  Then 2 days later another surgery, more stuff removed.  Wound up with an ostomy (bag).  I felt so depressed.  I lost 35 lbs.  I didn't have much hope or faith that it would ever be able to be reversed.

But thanks to God, 4 months later, almost to the day, they were able to reverse the procedure and now, other than some nasty scars, I'm in one piece again.  Never felt so good to pass gas!  Blush

Anyway, if you have diverticulosis/diverticulitis, don't wait like I did until it was almost too late.  Talk to your doctor about antibiotics and other options including voluntary surgery (instead of emergency surgery).  They say your chances of survival are much better if you schedule this type of surgery in order to avoid serious infection from occuring.

I read that this disease is spreading like wildfire, esp in the western world.

But there's hope, so don't despair.

May God bless.

josegonzalez it does sound like a terrifying experience that you went thru.

I have a friend who has told me about getting that same illness and how he changed his diet to deal with it so I do understand how it could be getting out of control in the western world the way all food is overly processed now days.

I wonder, are you doing things different with ur diet now?

My father in law had the same procedure done and he is doing good as well. I try and eat a lot more fiber and drink plenty of water it seems to help  Havent had a bout in awhile knock on wood.
