One person is in custody after four people were wounded Wednesday morning in a shooting at Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas, that police believe began with a fight, authorities said.

Three people were taken to the hospital, including a 15-year-old boy who is listed in critical condition and has been in surgery, police said. A teenage girl suffered a minor injury and has been released. A 25-year-old man is said to be in good condition.

An adult female, who is pregnant, was treated at the school and was not taken to the hospital.

Police believe some of the victims were students. Two of them are believed to have been shot.

The suspect was identified as Timothy George Simpkins, 18. Simpkins fled the school after the shooting but was later caught and charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault with a gun.

"The suspect has been taken into custody without incident," the Arlington Police Department said in a tweet. "Most students have been safely evacuated from Timberview High School."

Calls came in around 9:15 a.m. about a shooting at the school. Several law enforcement agencies, including Arlington and Mansfield police, responded. The Dallas Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is also on scene.

Arlington Assistant Police Chief Kevin Kolbye said earlier Wednesday that the shooting was "not a random act of violence" and "a student who got into a fight and drew a weapon."

Although the school is located in Arlington, it is a part of the Mansfield Independent School District.

The district said in a statement that the high school was on lockdown but police have cleared the building. Students were escorted to buses around noon and taken to the Center for Performing Arts to be reunited with their parents.

"Counseling services will also be available for students and parents at the reunification location," the district said.

One parent told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth that her son is safe and hid underneath a desk as shots rang out.

“He’s just nervous and … in shock," the boy's mother said. "He’s just like, ‘Mama, where are you? Just make sure you’re here.’ "

A teacher at the school, Dale Topham, said he was across the hall when the shooting took place and described how students immediately turned the lights off and comforted each other as they hid.

"The students handled it pretty well themselves," he said. "They hid. They huddled together."

Timberview is a 17-year-old sprawling 75-acre, 416,000 square foot school about 27 miles southwest of downtown Dallas. It has nearly 1,900 students.

This is at least the second school shooting in the state in less than a week. A Houston high school administrator was wounded Friday after a 25-year-old former student blasted his way through a glass barricade at YES Prep Southwest Secondary, authorities said.

The suspected shooter, who was armed with a rifle, surrendered when he was confronted by responding officers, Houston police Chief Troy Finner told reporters.

Suspected Texas high school gunman released on bail
one day after teacher and students shot

The Texas student who allegedly opened fire at his high school, injuring four people,
including a teacher, was sprung from jail on Thursday afternoon — as an attorney who
joined him by his side insisted that the case wasn’t a “standard-issue school shooting.”

Timothy George Simpkins, 18, who attends Timberview High School in Arlington, will
report to home confinement after he posted $75,000 bond at Tarrant County Jail,
news station WFAA reported.

Simpkins, who was wearing a blue baseball cap and graphic t-shirt, didn’t answer questions
from reporters as he was escorted from the jailhouse by two relatives into the back seat
of a white Mercedes sedan.

As part of the conditions of his release, he will also have to submit to drug and alcohol
testing and wear a GPS

Civil rights attorney Kim T. Cole, who spoke on behalf of the family, blasted reporters
outside the jail for portraying the dangerous incident as a “standard-issue school shooting.”

“There are numerous school shootings that have occurred across this country which are tragic.
All school shootings are tragic,” Cole said.  “However, in this situation, this was not someone who
was just out to go and shoot a school and had made up their mind [and said,] ‘You know hey I’m
upset and I’m just going to shoot anyone I see.'”

“That was not the situation here. So I request the media correct their narrative with regard to
what happened, and that you all respect the family’s privacy,” she continued.

A family spokeswoman has claimed that he acted out of self-defense after being robbed and
targeted by bullies.

Footage on social media allegedly showed Simpkins getting into an altercation during class
with another student that escalated to gunfire Wednesday.

The fight was broken up and the two students calmed down, but then Simpkins pulled out a
firearm from his orange backpack and fired several shots that struck three people, according
to an arrest warrant Thursday.

Calvin Pettitt, a 25-year-old English teacher who jumped in to break up the fight, was shot in the back,
suffering broken ribs and a collapsed lung, according to police and his family.

The other victims were identified as Zacchaeus Selby, Eyimofe Olawepo and Pariesa Altma,
according to a bond document obtained by Dallas News.

Police have said a 15-year-old boy was in critical condition, while a teenage girl who was
grazed by a bullet had been discharged from the hospital.

The fourth victim, a pregnant woman, was injured in a fall during the shooting, but received
medical care on the scene, police said.

Simpkins was charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

sons of bitches.
i have seen glimpses about this absolutely bullshit defense. i have read he is claiming he was afraid to go to school. reasons unknow. they have not thought them up yet.

but according to the evidence presented above, little rat bastard came to school with a gun in his backpack. He had a fight with another. Broken up. But he pulled a gun out and shot. Even the teacher whom tried to intervene.

That does not show a fear to go to school. that was pre meditated murder. one only brings a gun to school and fights with another if he means to use same.

There is not one shred of evidence he acted in self defense. He could have gotten parental, or school or police help. One does not take a loaded gun in their backpack to school, then fight in front of many witnesses. He was the perpetrator. Facts don't suggest a hint of his fear. Cuz they do have to make those up.

Just BS. Any attorney whom defends the carp deserves the "respect" he will garner.

I did not see any definition of what a standard school shooting is, in the law. Attorney is trying to go with a new defense. and God help us it might work. Robert Chambers killed Jennifer levine in central park cuz she did not want him. Rough Sex defense was invented. He was guilty.

This is not a standard school shooting.

I hope to God you are just buying time and You get a judge or jury smart enuff to follow the evidence.

Was defendant afraid of the teacher whom tried to stop the fight? no. but he was shot also.

Several were. And they were not gathered around suspect at time. Stinks.

I am sorry Texas.

Suspected Texas high school gunman
reportedly got welcome home party

October 8, 2021

The Texas teen who injured four people when he allegedly opened fire at his high school
celebrated his release from jail with a twisted welcome home party – even as one of the
victims remains in a coma.

Timothy George Simpkins, 18, who attends Timberview High School in Arlington, posted
$75,000 bond at Tarrant County Jail on Thursday and headed to home confinement.

The student, who was charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon,
was seen in videos shared in social media enjoying a celebratory family gathering in his kitchen,
The Sun reported.

Meanwhile, 15-year-old student Zacchaeus Selby, who was struck four times during the gunfire,
remained hospitalized in an induced coma, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

“Zacchaeus is a bright young and respectful individual who lit up a room every time with his
presence,” according to a GoFundMe account set up to raise money for his medical expenses
and legal costs.

“He has a heart of gold and does not deserve to be fighting for his life in the ICU due to being
shot in an environment were (sic) kids should feel safe. He is a great brother, boyfriend, and
coworker and does not have a bone in his body to bully anyone,” the fundraiser adds.

A spokeswoman for Simpkins’ family has claimed that he acted out of self-defense after being
robbed and targeted by bullies for wearing nice duds and driving a fancy car.

Footage on social media allegedly showed Simpkins getting into an altercation during class with
another student that escalated to gunfire Wednesday.

The fight was broken up and the two students calmed down, but then Simpkins pulled out a
firearm from his backpack and fired several shots that struck Selby and two other people,
according to an arrest warrant.

A pregnant woman was injured in a fall during the shooting, but received medical care
at the scene, police said.

Selby’s grandmother, Kathy Selby, told WFAA that the two students had been feuding
for a long time.

“They’re making Simpkins out to be the victim. My grandson is in the ICU — shot four times.
My grandson is the victim,” she told the outlet.

Civil rights attorney Kim Cole, who spoke on behalf of Simpkins’ family, criticized reporters

Two (2) victims with serious injury, one of which--The teacher-- was shot in the BACK and the kid gets charged 'aggravated assault'.. Maybe I'm mistaken but I was under the impression the DA makes the Bail/no bail argument along with the severity of the charge, but the judge has the final say. The crime sounds more of attempted murder with at least one additional felony. Unless kids are allowed concealed carry on school grounds..

Where I'm from packing a gun on school property is a felony and taken very seriously. That in itself is enough to hold the kid while he and his parents went through an extensive evaluation process.

No, U r correct. These charges stink. look at the look on the wee puke's face. his family is so happy they got him out. should never have happened. he is a loose canon.

My son is around thirty now. When he attended high school in a wonderful area, they started security guards at the front door to check all kids cuz some arses were bringing in d Rugs to sell.

So i would assume normal school systems have some security at the front. And once that RAt was fighting with another, cops should have been called.

He is oblivious to the hell he is part of. That he caused. Disgusting.

Timberview High School shooting suspect
arrested again

Published December 24, 2021 1:05PM
Arlington

ARLINGTON, Texas

The Arlington teenager accused of injuring four people during a
school shooting is back behind bars.

Court records show 18-year-old Timothy Simpkins was arrested Thursday
for a bond violation. The document did not give details about the violation.

Simpkins bonded out of jail in October, just a few days after police said he
opened fire inside Timberview High School in Arlington.

The shooting reportedly stemmed from a fight Simpkins had with another student.
That student, 15-year-old Zaccaeus Selby, was critically injured but survived.

Another student was grazed by a bullet and a teacher was shot.
A second teacher who was pregnant was injured in chaos following the shooting.

Simpkins was charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a
deadly weapon.

His family claimed he was being bullied but the Arlington police chief said
he does not believe bullying played any role in the shooting.

Metal detector wands and other enhanced security measures
were added at Timberview High School.
