Ye ole Cafe
200mg of ModAlert 200 at 4:30AM and 4 cups of coffee in between then and now, and I'm finally starting to feel human. It's been a dickens of a week at work (worked 15 hours yesterday on a data center crisis - And we own and manage our own data centers, they aren't contracted...But how the DC manager racked, stacked, and powered over 300 new blades over the past two months without thinking to order additional filers to handle storage for them as they were provisioned for customers I can't even conceive. I ended up frantically getting four unused filers from one of our other four data centers sent to us by private courier, then shifting the budgets and required purchase forecasts for the two data centers involved around, and putting in the POs to replace the four filers we moved, all the while fielding hourly phone calls from my boss about when "the issue" would be fixed. "The issue" indeed.)

I really, really should have stuck with software development project management - I thought THAT was stressful, but these hours and this amount of stress aren't worth what I'm paid. However, at my age, I have to take into consideration the stability of the firm (it is one of the biggest hardware / software firms in the world, and the current leader in Cloud technology) and embrace the suck for another decade or so, until I can collect my full Social Security benefits - Those, combined with our 401K and my 40% VA disability check will keep the wife and I quite comfortable when we sell this house and move back to God's Country (Texas) to build a much smaller house on the 40 acre lot we've already purchased there.

There's light at the end of the tunnel, though - I applied for an internal transfer to Corporate HR's Mergers and Acquisitions division - We acquire 6-10 smaller firms in any given year, and they don't have a project manager to plan the activities for each transaction and keep Executive Management updated on the status of each deal on a regular basis, so when I saw that opening I jumped on it, went through 8 interviews, and was selected for the position, so all I have to do now is stay sane until June 1, when the transfer is effective (I have to complete the projects I'm assigned to now before my current VP will release me). It's going to be a mild challenge at first, as all I know about Mergers and Acquisitions comes from a couple of classes in grad school - But I still have those textbooks and can use the next 60 days or so to bone up on the basics. As far as the Project Management aspect of the new job, I'm not worried at all...Thank the heavens that Project Management is a discipline that can be applied to any field of endeavor using the same principles, tools, and techniques.

Work aside, both of my sick baby chickens from yesterday have made a full recovery and are back with their brothers and sisters, so tonight should be a rare, 100% stress free evening.

To my mentor Señor Don Diego de la Zander, my fine friends IceWizard, Admin of Steel, Revolution, Harley, Fireplaces, Audrey Hepburn, Insomnia_Sucks, HollywoodJimbo, willie33, Linville, and Popster, and to the new acquaintances I've made over thee past week (hope you all stick around!), Have as good a Friday as you can, and make your weekend one to remember.

Best,

Good Morning Everyone! Happy Friday to all.

Yesterday all the snow we had melted since it was raining so hard. It was so lovely to see all the green grass once again.

But this morning I woke to another 2inches of snow & cold temps.

I cannot wait till it warms up & I can get out to work in my garden & yard.

I do have some happy news. This winter someone dropped off a furry calico cat at my house which made me so angry. Well, I made her a little house on my back sunporch & she loved it. It kept her safe & warm. I knew she was getting bigger & bigger & not from eating. lol
She was pregnant.

On Wednesday she had her kittens! It looks like she had 5 or 6. I already have someone who will take one. I need to find homes for the rest of them. And once they are weaned, I will get mama spayed.

I love animals & I am hoping I don't get too attached to the kittens. I just can't afford to keep them all.

I hope you all have a good day with your pain & anxiety under control.

Happy Friday everyone! T-minus 12 minutes to the weekend.....
Well not really as I just agreed to come in tomorrow Sad
Although only from about 11:00 - 15:00 so really it aint all that bad, definitely late and short enough to temporarily exit cafelinville and enter barlinville (and then drag my hungover ass back into cafelinville when im working (skiving) tomorrow) - there will be no bosses so I think ill clock up 4 hours but work about 1...and I have earned the right to have a few drinks tonight!

B2G - I think you sent me a buddy request but its now gone. TBPH im not exactly sure what a buddy request means? But im a nice guy Wink so ill accept if you re-send.
Anyway yeah I had a wee search, what does a buddy mean?

As some of you may have seen, MM blessed my postbox today so im quite happy about that, as although im not a customer of ttm2u ive been keeping up to date with recent goings on which was one of the reasons I decided to top up on 'coffee'
Ok this is not the place to discuss ^that^ 'Topic'...I know, but then again...maybe I really did get some coffee? Big Grin

Haha, ok jokes aside I hope you all have a great Friday, Saturday AND Sunday, ill be sure to check back in soon.

Adios for now

I_S, you certainly are a nice fellow, We all agree Smile

I typically delete buddy requests if they haven't been accepted in two weeks, assuming the recipient isn't planning to accept.  Will certainly resend to you.  I'm not actually clear on what functionality the buddy list adds, other than being able to find recent posts from your buddies easily.

Ah, and the drag period of Friday afternoon starts - Last night's crisis resolved this morning, end of week reports all done, customer calls completed, customer status reports done, project schedules updated, portfolio status report done, and resources for next week's tasks booked.  So I'm de facto (as opposed to de jure) finished with this week, but remain chained to my PC until 5PM, with no work left to do, just watching my email inbox for any requests.

Two hours of this, when I could be napping.  What a waste.

Be well, all.

I hate it when that happens Harley - And I'm too embarrassed to mention how many times it *has* happened to me. There are times I believe my wife is sending the cat to summon me away from the computer!

Have a great Friday night yourself - And a great weekend.
