I like information too ...thanks for taking the time to talk about this.
H yes a lot of the so called health drinks are loaded with way too much sugar.
I try to choose something as simple as bread with zero sugar in it and check it out sometime it is hard to do.
They put sugar in everything....just like salt.
Oncologists will tell you that cancer feeds on sugar.
I do choose something sweet at times but I also know that moderation is my friend.
Keep on educating us....
Another little game the FDA plays on us is when reading the labels looking for sugar content, they will put it under other names to trick us. I'm sure they do that with many ingredients so that we really don't know what and how much of certain things we are getting.
I truly believe the reason we see so much cancer and other diseases today is because of all of the crap they put in our food. All these additives and dyes and preservatives are killing us slowly. It's almost impossible to eat healthy now. It also makes me wonder what they're not putting on those labels?
But hey, their system is working out well for them. They're taking care of their "population control" and helping Big Pharma make money on us from all of the illnesses these chemicals cause. It's the soft kill.

yes Audrey is right.....a very good documentary.
I've looked at every box of cereal in the Supermarkets.....the ONLY two cereals without sugar are GrapeNuts and Shredded Wheat.
and Cricket is right about the manufacturers disquising sugar under not understood names....here is a list of 56 names:
I would like to add this.....all of this sugar was added to our foods when "fat" was determined to be bad for us.....the manufactures then removed the fat (which tastes good) and replaced it with sugar (which tastes good) a charade..... this is a fact, not an opinion.
Glad many of you are interested....it is an important subject and the main cause of obesity in our children......check out Jamba Juice....creepy. America has children under 10 with type 2 diabetes....this was unheard of until the current generation....it's epidemic and going to get worse
gotta go....I have a huge "honeydo" list to attend

Hi Linvilians, and Linvilains
First, great new icon Linville, that's a beauty. I was high in the Sierras packing one night years ago, and it was the night of the Harvest moon. At a decent elevation, and with no artificial light around, my ex and I could go out and walk around like it was early evening, no flashlight needed. It was amazing.
As for sugar and cancer Pop, you are correct, doubtless. I have a niece who is an MD. She went back to school and took lots of what she called "mods" to get certified in a specialty I can never remember the name of. Beyond nutritionist, but leaned heavy on diet. Anyway. She was always reminding me of the relationship between sugar and cancer. As a survivor, it's important that I take every precaution, which I don't. I finally explained to her that early detection was paramount in dealing with cancer. If I had one little cancer cell that had migrated anywhere, I'd want to know about it as soon as possible. Cancer is only detectable after it reaches a certain stage of growth, no instrument can find one or two cells. So, it was important that if I did have a hidden cell, that it reach a mass that would be detectable by scans, so it was a simple matter of reason that I have some sugar in my diet.
She was a bit miffed at my sneaky logic, but it got her off my reprobate back, ha. But, no argument, lots of sugar not a good deal for anyone.

One other little tidbit. Please don't think that using products containing Aspartame vs. sugar will be better. Exactly the opposite.
Tho sugar is bad, Aspartame is much much worse. You'd be better off choosing sugar. Aspartame is just another deadly chemical that they push on us. We have good old Donald Rumsfeld to thank for his contribution to population reduction. When they were trying to get it approved by the FDA, Donald was a big player at the drug co. that was behind this dangerous crap. With his clout in government, he made sure to grease the palms of the FDA to push it thru, even tho it was a known poison.
This evil cabal running the country want to kill off a lot of us so that the lesser numbers could be controlled easier, never thinking that this was being done behind our backs. These people? are unbelievably evil and don't give a rats behind what it does to us. This is why I trust NOTHING FDA approved. I also stay far, far away from anything geared towards senior citizens health products. Senior citizens and the crippled up people that are "useless eaters" and not able to contribute to society for whatever reason, are the 1st ones they want to do away with. I've done a lot of looking into this and it's scary as hell for those of us that fall into that category.
You can call me crazy or a conspiracy nut, but facts are facts. This is a VERY dangerous world we live in and I pray you guys will be very careful and check into this for yourselves. They tried with their "death panels", which didn't go over very well, so they are going about doin' this in a quiet way. They are very sick and evil people and should NEVER be trusted.
Be careful

ok, cool.
and, as i have been saying since i was a pharmacy tech in 2008, Red Bull has taurine, which is a cat supplement for dyiing cats. It made my nephew have a swollen pancreas, and a few other organs. As cancer is what kills my clan, it was a big concern. But it was red bull.
asparatame can also mimic either MS or lupus in people. And, since both those autoimmunes are diagnosed on a very fallible blood test, mRIs, and process of elimination, i would avoid asparatame like the plague.
Nice we all try to be healthy in our little ways.

First diet book I ever read was by comedian Dick Gregory in 1974, titled "Dick Gregorys Natural Diet for Folks Who Eat: Cookin With Mother Nature"
It was mainly just a book on switching to vegetarianism. He didn't know much about diet. In the book he said he figured he'd automatically lose weight if he didn't eat meat, and gained another thirty pound or so when he gave up meat, ha.
He was smarter by the time he wrote the book of course, but still a comedian. He listed three stages of dietary evolution: vegetarianism, vegan, and what he called "breathatarianism" where you lived on nothing but pure clean air--which is no longer available.
Then I read "Diet For a Small Planet" which is still a milestone book, and deals with lots of dietary and socially related issues.
Doubtless, eating healthy today in the U.S. is daunting. My main idea is to stay away from processed food and too much sugar. But I eat a chili dog when I get hungry for one. I used to eat a lot of the "Morningstar Farms" stuff, I like their fake bacon. But, now they cost more--I just use bacon to flavor beans anyway--and if you look at the ingredients, you'd be better eating a free-ranging pig--moral issues notwithstanding.
A friend in China tells me nothing is fit to eat there, no oversight at all. Those with enough yen eat imported stuff, and market stuff. He said they have nothing like FDA--flawed and corrupt as it can be--and there is no telling what might be in your canned, glassed, or prepared foods.
We are lucky here to worry about the finer points of eating healthy.

Hi Audrey,
i was a diet coke fan, and I only mean COKE, but I switched to diet some years ago but about oh I dont know a year or two by now I got concerned that the aspartame was worse than regular sugar reading about it....so I switched back to regular COKE.
Also tried to mix in some ginger-ale rather than COKE but it goes so good with pizza...Grins...anyway The last time I went to the weight I like to carry about 20 lbs less than now.... stopping all COKE products Really Helped with it happening along with 3-4 times a week exercise, of course, but boy O boy did it feel good, and then on vacay one time I thought I would splurge and drank one ....ugh....well you know....after that. My streak was broke
Again, I am like you considering slowly quitting it and I am sure I would eat less if I didnt drink it..
So I wish you luck with quitting... Slowly, is a good plan, seems to me.
Each of us has to come up with what works as an individual but like Spanky said we are lucky here to worry about the finer points of eating healthy.
Have a great evening ALL,

Good luck Audrey......smart move.
I used to love coke......now that I know more, I manage to satisfy my yearnings with an organic pomegranate soda that I add to sparking water in a ratio of about 5 parts water to one part soda.....to my surprise I found 3 of my friends were doing the same thing with their flavor of choice.
Now when I have a full strength soda....well, it's way to strong, over the top.....I really like sparkling water and now I am happy flavoring it.
I have never tried Red Bull and have been wanting to....but I think I will pass after reading Charon's post.
