Just do what feels right for you 
. If you read something that strikes catches your brain, and it makes you think about your own opinions or experiences, in real life wouldn't that be the moment when you contribute to a social interaction?. Treat it like that maybe . Just make sure you stick within the rules and eventually you will get used to the whole idea of it.
When i first started posting and chatting online in places like this (not specifically here, the internet has been around since before I was a teen), I would save a draft and make sure it came within what I felt comfortable posting. Maybe save a draft of a post or thread you want to write, double check the rules or what you are contributing to, then post away.
Im not telling you how to do things, its just some tips or pointers or advice etc etc . Enjoy!!
