I for one advocate hiding in plain sight.
Conduct yourself as if you are doing nothing wrong, and you will find very little attention paid to you.
Remember that most of us are not doing anything wrong, at least ethically or morally.
The US justice system believes firmly in 'no need for privacy if there's nothing to hide'.
Play into their distorted beliefs, and revoke your use of privacy tools.
At the point you are being targeted by an alphabet agency, VPNs and the like are only temporary roadblocks against tools like parallel construction.
The use of such tools can actually be cited as grounds to show intent, so consider that.
Peace of mind is nice, but I prefer to conduct myself in a way that can leave reasonable doubt for ignorance and lack of malicious intent.
