I have a friend who is an LPN in a nursing home and she says that the Dr. who writes the meds for the residents puts almost all the elderly with insomnia on Melatonin. ( I don't know how much) I don't know if it's age and they are more sensitive to it or even if it's the placebo effect, but she swears the patients who get it and who are cognitively functional all claim it helps them get to sleep??? My friend says there have been no ill effects she has noticed and like 70% of the residents are on it.
