True that they can trace the ip you are using with a vpn and see that it belongs to a vpn. That is as far as they can trace you without getting cooperation from the vpn. They can't get your real ip, name, address or anything like that. Use a vpn based in another country if possible and one that says they do not log ip's or no longer than a few hours. Mine has a list of well over a dozen from my country I can use as well as some from other countries. This is useful if you want to access a site that is off limits to your home country.
