It's my privilege to make your acquaintance, Ice. I had an uncle (my Mama's sister's husband) who was born and raised in Beaumont back when it was just a spot on the map with a single red stop sign, he did 30 years in the Army (fought in three wars - WWII, Korea, and Vietnam), retired to Copperas Cove as a Command Sergeant Major, and lived like a prince, never wore anything but white T-shirts and overalls for the rest of his life.
I grew up right down the road from Copperas Cove in Harker Heights, my mother in-law lives there in the same house my wife grew up in to this day. Visiting her makes it clear to me just how old I am...Harker Heights, which was the "poor" part of the Killeen Metroplex area (Killeen, Nolanville, and Harker Heights), we all went to Killeen elementary, middle, and high schools...Now Harker Heights has their own K-12 school system, completely separate from the Killeen Independent School District, and is bigger than Killeen was while I was growing up.
I'll love Central Texas until the day I die, but I can't stand that kind of heat any longer, thus Tyler...Where at least there are trees, and hills, and a nice, cool breeze now and again. My avatar is actually the starting point of the Bluebonnet Highway, just look at all those bluebonnets to either side of the two-lane road. Heaven.
