So, I have been taking Diazepam for a very long time and always take mine Sublingually(let them melt under the tounge
). For me personally they work within ten minutes and go from zero to full on very quickly (i.e.when I first feel them working, it feels like the whole dose kicks in at the same time; it's not a steady rise, it's more of a 'Hit' if you like.)
I used to swallow them for years, but as you would know if you get anxiety regularly, when an anxiety/panic attack comes on, more often than not it's an instant feeling of panic. So getting your meds to work quickly is essential.
Now, you'll have to forgive me if im wrong on this part (infact I'm hoping that some of the senior members or "people in the know", will actually confirm or put me straight on this one). But my understanding is this; when you take medication Sublingually, they work a whole LOT quicker than swallowing them as they get absorbed straight into the blood stream(as you have absolutely loads of blood vessels under your tounge), also bypassing the stomach and liver which can destroy some of the active ingredient. I know this to be the case with buprenorphine(Subutex), infact if you swallow buprenorphine most of it will get destroyed in the stomach.
Anyway, I know that Alprazolam taste absolutely awful, at least the ones I tried did
, thats if they were what they were actually meant to be!!
Does anyone take there Alprazolam Sublingually? Or is there just no need as they are a fast acting benzo, but with a short half life(again, that's my understanding from what I have read).
I'd be intrested to know what people's thoughts are on this one, I am wondering if it's worth suffering the awful taste for a quicker/more effective release? ...Or is there just no gain from taking Alprazolam sublingually? I know some meds just do not work when taken that way.
With the Diazepam, the taste is not an issue, infact I actually quite like the taste of them, and they definitely work quicker for me taking them Sublingually.
