Loads of my US friends are upset about Trump. Not so much that Hillary didn't win - most felt she was the wrong candidate for all kinds of reasons - but more about Trump's racism, sexism, etc. From outside the USA there is a lot of emphasis on his personality as erratic and him having authoritarian tendencies (I mean that in the psychological sense of the word, obviously he's not in office yet so we can't know).

I've heard a lot about hate crimes following the Trump win - I was glad to hear him condemn it. My friend's neighbour suggested that there would be a spike in hate crimes and then it would go back to the usual level. But then what is an acceptable amount of hate crime or prejudice?

It's sad to see America so divided. It really isn't good for a country to pull so far apart.
