Unfortunately, i have heard other young people say similar things when depressed. they felt alien and separate from this world. unlike other people.
Have they been subject to psychiatric evaluation first? They were 17 for first surgeries. Does he/she have parents?
Geeze, I don't even think people should have vasectomies in the event that they change their mind later.
Generally you can reverse a vasectomy, but I know what you mean. I don't have tatoos or piercings because I don't want to be stuck with anything permanent (and I'm convinced tatoos will age really badly).
For someone who is transgender they would normally have many psychological evaluations before anything happened. In the UK they would typically be expected to live as their desired gender for two years before surgery. I'm not so sure with this case because Vinny is very clear this isn't a "sex change" issue. It sounds like they've gone down the private cosmetic surgery route, but I'd be surprised if a surgeon removed their penis because of the issues with urination described in the other article (urinary tract infections would be far more likely, so arguably the surgeon would be doing harm). I'm aware there are certain websites that deal with heavy body modification, and people seem to have to go the DIY route for things as dramatic as this. I hope Vinny doesn't attempt that because it could be life-threatening.
Due to the area in which I work, I know a few transgender people with very different experiences. One, to use the cliche, felt like a woman trapped in a man's body. Therefore surgery and hormones, to a greater or lesser degree, fixed the issue (i.e. became a woman). Most of the time I didn't have too much trouble conceptualising her as female. There are people who don't want to change m2f/f2m, but don't really identify with either gender. So I know someone in their mid-20s who is "non-binary". They don't see themselves as male or female in a psychologically meaningful way. They are legally female, but that is a technicality for them. Obviously they realise the biological differences - they aren't stupid - I think it is more they don't like the societal expectations of male vs female. But no plans for surgery like Vinny!
The difference between the article and the people I've known, is that everyone I described would hate to be seen as alien. They desperately wanted to be accepted by other people for who they were.
