Back to Monday...
That Monday morning alarm clock has to be the worst sound ever!

Been some good posts on here lately, a joy to read.
I wish my life would slow down a bit and I could join in (more) but right now it seems to be going 100mph. Hopefully it's temporary.

Well our company have today announced MORE redundencies today so time to wait and see who and when.
It's all good though! I've been here a long time so I'd get a good pay-off, but at the same time it's highly unlikely they would let me go. It's strange, I kind of want to be paid off, it would kick start my new career plans.

Good morning to all. Not the best start of the week for me as I went outside to find my garage door forced open and my son's bike stolen. Luckily the thief didn't spot the new hob and the radiator waiting to go into my kitchen, so there are some small mercies here! My dogs barked like crazy at 3 am but I was actually a bit scared by it and didn't go down from the loft - instead, I stood there silently listening. I couldn't hear anything so after about ten minutes trying not to breathe too loudly, I concluded that as my house alarm was on and the house was silent, the dogs had just barked randomly. So I went back to bed - silly me! I only had to find the courage to go downstairs and take a look out of the window, but maybe it was too dark to see anyone out there anyway.
I hate this sort of thing; even though it was my garage and I didn't lose any more than a bike that my son isn't using so much right now, I feel violated. Odd really. I am trying to be rational about it and look on the bright side, I didn't lose too much and I wasn't hurt, my home wasn't invaded, only my garage. It could have been so much worse.
I've got my first session as a bereavement counsellor at the new hospice this afternoon so I am trying my best to put this out of my mind and do some swotting - I feel like I've forgotten the training.

Linville, I_S, I've been through three acquisitions in the past 20 years, and each one has worked out for the better for me - Just absorb the new corporate culture as quickly as you can, spend a year with your nose to the grindstone, then start combing the new firm's job openings to see if there's anything you'd enjoy more than your current position.  I've taken pay cuts in the past in order to move to another job in the same firm that is much more enjoyable and less stressful than my previous job was, and the pay always returns to what it was or better within a couple of years.  When a software / hardware industry giant purchased the little 9-year old e-commerce software firm I was working for in 2010, not only did our stock convert to their stock 1:1 (that's how we got eldest daughter through college with no debt), but I moved from e-commerce to Cloud Services within a year, to a job that is 100% work from home with a week's travel every quarter, and just recently transferred to Corporate HR's mergers and acquisitions group, where they are in desperate need for a project manager to establish a PMO office for them.  it is a lateral transfer, no increase in pay or benefits, but it is also 100% work from home (Corporate is in Silicon Valley, and I'm in the deep Southeast, they aren't going to pay for that relocation, with no travel at all and much more opportunity for overtime.  Opportunity is everywhere my friend, sometimes it just takes a bit of time to unearth it and a lot of studying to prepare for the interviews for the new position you want.

Audrey, I hope the Wizards manage to find the root cause of your headaches and prescribe you something appropriate - Imitrex (generic, of course, the Sumatriptan tablets) has been a godsend for me, and although I was only prescribed seven tablets, they gave me two refills and told me to come back when I need more...I really hope I don't get more than 21 migraines over the next two years, as I'm all set to combat that many.

Harley, I am green with envy over your weekend - I did manage to build a hutch for all of the baby chicks yesterday (all 52 of them, with 25 more on the way from McMurray's - Breeds I simply have to have), get my hair cut back to within standards (strange, the things just a four year hitch in the army imprint on one for life - along with my haircuts, I find myself OCD about making my bed every morning and keeping the clothes hung in my closet separated by exactly two fingers width, and with folding my socks and underwear in the manner prescribed at Basic Training and AIT, then storing them in drawers lined with white towels in the manner we were required to do in the barracks).  All of this overjoys my wife of course, as I'm also OCD about keeping the floors mopped to a shine throughout the house (we have hardwoods in every room except for the kitchen and bathrooms, which are ceramic tile I installed myself - I cannot tolerate carpet or linoleum), so all that's really left for her is cooking - I don't trust automatic dishwashers and insist on hand washing and rack drying all of our dishes, silverware, pots, and pans.

I think it's a great joke when someone sees my haircut and asks me if I'm a veteran to reply "no, I just have a bad haircut", but my wife isn't amused by that one, considering all of the veteran's institutions I am a member of - Heck, I've been in one position or another on the Board of Directors for my old Infantry Division's association for 6 years now, and we still attend the Order of the Bayonet's annual dinner at Fort Lewis every year so that I can catch up with old buddies who also earned that distinction.  I did go with her on Saturday to get manicures and pedicures for each of us though, so I'm probably in her good graces this week.

Rose5555, invest $300 or so in a Colt "Chief's Special" .38 revolver, it is a light and compact pistol that police officers in desk jobs and city mayors carry, low maintenance and easy to use.  If you have children in the house keep it in a locked drawer that's easily accessible in your bedroom, if not, simply keep it in your nightstand - But keep it loaded at all times, an unloaded pistol is less useful than a baseball bat.  Those "bumps in the night" are much less frightening when you're prepared!

bnewhart001, I expect a missive of a post from you this week, I'll reciprocate on Thursday or Friday.  Between you and selfless I'm going to have to give up all of my other recreational reading  

Charon, Ice, AOS, I hope your administrative duties are light this week, but I do look forward to seeing your posts when you make them.  Ice, I'm sure you've been tempted to jump into the threads regarding the Russian "buzzing" of our vessels and antics with our aircraft, as have I, but I just can't seem to find the time.

Good evening all,

Long day (12-hour shift), then I had to run to the grocery store, which I really didn't feel like doing, as two of our older baby chicks are refusing to eat, so I had to make up some of my special yoghurt, honey, and chicken feed mix for them - That never fails.

I did get a piece of good luck today, a startup firm I worked for from 2002 - 2007 sent me a form 1065 K-1 for a capital loss on my stock holdings that just arrived today, so I filled out an amended return and it looks like Uncle Sam owes me an additional $650, and my state owes me an additional $170.  Of course, they'll take their sweet time processing the amended return (the last time I had to do this for a capital loss it took 18 weeks to get a check in the mail), but it is always nice to know that there is money due to you from a guaranteed creditor (yes, I too laughed when I just referred to the US Treasury as a "guaranteed creditor",  I can't believe I wrote that).

Monday's gone, at least, and the chickens are all tended to and put away for the night - Now for an hour to an hour and a half of TV, then off to the rack with me.
