Need advice for 4 legged children
#1
We have two toy parti poodles that are 5 yrs old.  Brothers from the same litter and 5 yrs old.  9 lbs and 14 lbs.  One(brown and white) is picky eater, the other one (black and white) will eat anything not tied down.  Great buds - this is first time I have had 2 poodles and it is wonderful - will always do it in the future if have to.

However, the black and white one just had surgery for a PCS/TPLO (patella centralization stablizion  and tibid plateau leveling - I think that is close) anyway in layman terms, it is fix knee that keeps slipping out and repair ligament.  Had last Thursday.  Sleep at night has gotten better because he is on pain, anxiety, and 3 other kinds 3 times a day.  Patient internalizes more and probably makes a better patient than my little brown and white with so much energy. But both of them are spoiled.  The surgical nurse giving strict instruction on keep collar on for 2 wks and crated for 6 weeks Rolleyes Rolleyes  - this is near impossible.  I know the collar has to be (we got a donut one which seems to work better for him and us)      She also said I should crate the brown and white - What??? I wouldn't want this woman for my mother!!!

Let me tell you our biggest problem:  our backs - we carry him from  one place to another - we have 3 crates (borrowed 2 ) so we have their crates that sleep in at the end of our beds - and thankfully we trained them to love their crates - sometimes during the day they will hop us on our bed and from there they can walk in the crates.  Then we borrowed 2, one I keep on a table right next to my desk (which is where I am most the time) and then another one in the kitchen.  In addition to that we borrowed a stroller (and this helps some with our backs so we don't have to carry them from crate to crate, but my back is still miserable..although stroller helps We have a sling we put under him for his potty (hard on back also) ...so we are muddling through

This morning a different problem, the brown and white quit eating (even plain roast beef, turkey ) His routine is been messed up too.  And the black and white been shaking all morning (nurse says either pain or nerves and he is on meds for both)  It is the 5th day so wonder if brown and white thinking this way always going to be and he misses his playmate.  He used to clean black and white's eyes and both of them loved it - black and white growled 3 days ago at him, and brown and white won't go near him .
Never had 2 before - I guess I am just venting but if any of you pet owners have any ideas for me, I sure would appreciate it.
Thanks gang - only 5 1/2 wks to go Confused

Also you may have determined by now that I am a very serious Mother of my 4 legged babies. We have a long way to go yet, it won't even be two weeks until Thursday. But I have found a place that will do reiki on dogs, as well as us humans. He want so far as to say, that animals are more receptive than humans. We are going tonight, I will report tomorrow.

We have three dog babies, one of which is a poodle. She has had many problems. For the "crates hurting backs" problem, have you considered a crate with wheels? They even have ones with removable handles so you can drag them. I think we got ours on Amazon. It wasn't cheap, but worth it for vet visits, etc.

As for the not eating, if that's still a problem, have you tried the good old fashioned rice and cottage cheese or rice and plain chicken? Our Yorkie-poo has anxiety, which affects his appetite, and we give him that stuff sometimes. Good luck!

Hi Batgirl, good advice.  I have not seen the crate your are talking about on  wheels, but I am certainly going to check it out .  We still have 4 more weeks in the crate to go, even if we pass the witch nurse test and she takes out the stitches.  I am a "lcharter"member of Amazon, so I will certainly look it out - nothing too good for my boy.  And the other one that is not eating, figured out what it was......"He was not getting his morning walk" soon and we started that again, well he was good to go on eating.  Boy, they are so smart - wonder who is tricking who?
Thanks

I'm thinking that once black & white is feeling better things will go back to normal between the two. I'm sure brown & white is sensitive to his pal's distress and that is affecting him too.

I know you said you had a sling of sorts, I'm not sure if it's the same one you can buy but they looked pretty handy. I'm pretty sure I saw them on Amazon.

Chicken & rice is my go to for trying to get them to eat or rice cooked in chicken broth instead of water.

I hope your babies are back to normal soon, I know it's awful when they aren't feeling well and there isn't much you can do.
