Netflix/Amazon Binge Worthy Shows

I just started it, I'm really enjoying it. Jason Bateman in a weird way is playing the same character as he did in Arrested Development but with every single shred of humor removed. I'm only 3 in but I'm definitely planning on finishing it off. I've seen some comparison to Breaking Bad but I'm not sure I see it. Some nice twists and turns...and he's very good. Glad I found it.

I saw both seasons and it very much worth watching. It has this great feel to it, hard to describe. I wish there were more, but actually they made two too many. Right at the end it gets terrible. My personal opinion, you may feel differently.

Plus the opening credits are top five I've ever seen. I'd never skip them and they are long-ish. For example, I'd skip Orange is the new black's credits. Not that I even finished the new season, I couldn't watch it any more.

WhichBlair,

No problem.

Thanks for the insight into Ozark. I can't imagine a humorless Michael Bluth. What a bore. However, I'm going to check it out next after I finish The Americans. The Internet where I am staying at this weekend is almost as bad as the old dial-ups. I don't think they want us in our rooms on the Internet or watching TV (channels suck). Instead they want us in the casino losing our money.  Rolleyes Going home tomorrow, thank goodness.

A humorless Michael Bluth is a little out there. Probably a bad example, just seeing that name makes me smile. Another thing about Ozark is that they've put this weird tint in. Even broad daylight scenes look like they are being shot just before dusk.  Hard to describe.

Have fun anyway!

Interesting. I'm really curious now. Keep me posted as you watch on whether it's good or not. Thanks!

OR,

Isn't it though? And for the low, low price of $5K-6K a night, you and 11 others can rent it.  Big Grin

Anyway, I remember doing something me research on the home when I first found it. It was bought in 1984 for practically nothing, the owners have tried to sell it multiple times at prices even off the charts for Malibu, so they turned it into a rental. I think the last time I checked, it was listed at $17 million or something crazy like that. It's a bit dated and having one large room on the second floor would require some work, but the view is spectacular. I'd even live in the guest house.  Smile

Oops, I meant they are gorgeous and the house that I was referring to was Madeline's.

Just re-reading the threads. Stupid insomnia! I just figured out the thumbs up button and what to use it for, so I wanted to go back and "thumbs up" all of you who have made such great suggestions. However, I guess there is a limit on the number you can do daily, so I'll work on it more tomorrow.

I read the comments on a Bloodline. Missed those earlier. Also "Kimmy Schmidt" is another one that I had forgotten about. It's hilarious. I already mentioned that I loved Rectify. It was slow, but I liked the pace. It worked well for the show. Loved Bates Motel, but was surprised by the ending. Vera Farmiga is one of my favorite actresses, and Freddie H. is so amazingly talented. His new show on ABC about the surgeon with Autism/Aspbergers (can't remember which, but he's on the spectrum) looks like it could be really good, but a lot of the networks shows disappoint me anymore.

Enjoyed a Stranger Things (the season 2 trailer is out and looks really good) and 13 Reasons Why.

House of Cards use to be one of my absolute faves, and maybe it was just the political climate this year, but I usually binge it in 24 hours when it debuts, but strung this season out for 2 weeks. I think I was just over politics after the election. I did like the ending though and can't wait to see what happens next. Both characters (Wright and Spacey) are so well written, so coniving, so manipulative and so smart - I love their relationship with each other. They are there to support each other, but are also out for their own personal gain. It really is a great show.

I have not seen The Leftovers, but want to. It's on my list, as is Fargo. I am 2 seasons behind on GoT, so no spoilers, please. I get bored easily and tend to jump from show to show.

I have never seen Grey's Anatomy (gasp!), but I definitely know who Drs. McDreamy and McSteamy are.

The only Shonda Rhimes show that I have seen is The Catch, which of course has been cancelled. I think I am the only person on the planet who does not watch her shows. No reason why not, just so many others to watch and I work way too much.

I really liked the first few seasons of Orphan Black (Tatiana Maslany is so talented), but the last 2, and in this one in particular, I haven't really been into. I raved about it when it first came out, but I think the season where they introduced The Castor Clones lost me.

One last show and then I am going to watch last week's Orphan Black, is Murdoch Mysteries, or The Artful Detective if you watch it on Ovation. I have had the biggest crush on Yannick Bisson since his High Tide days with Rick Springfield and will watch anything with him on it. Back in the day when the Bissons called Encino home, Yannick's wife and I use to go to Billy Blanks' Tae Bo studio together. I wanted to hate her, but she was an absolute doll.

Ok, time to watch one of the final episodes of Orphan Black....

Happy a Monday everyone. Hope you all have a great week!

For those who like "House of Cards", you might enjoy the original British version of the same name from 1990. It plays out differently because the UK has a parliamentary democracy so some of the terms like "whips" might be confusing (whips ensure that MPs within a political party vote in accordance with the official party policy). But if you like the scheming aspect then I think you'll follow it. I think that even if you don't get into it, just watching one episode is quite illuminating.

If you like Veep, then try "The Thick of It" which is set in UK politics, but produces farcical situations (e.g. making an announcement on TV that then has to be "un-announced"). If you get into that, then you might want to try it's ancestor which is a show from the 80s called "Yes Minister". Whilst the style is a bit dated, a surprising amount holds up well.

Several people mentioned "Black Mirror" so you might want to check out earlier work by Charlie Brooker. My suggestion is "Nathan Barley" which was massively underrated at the time, but rather prophetic. It only got one series, but I thought it was a funny satire (nothing like as dark as Black Mirror).

If you like British comedy then I recommend "Peep Show" which has the unusual feature of being filmed from the perspective of the two main characters. You also hear their internal thoughts, so lots of the jokes come from the difference between what they think and what they say/do. It is very much the comedy of awkwardness and failure that plays out in a very English way (I think that's one of the distinctive differences between US and UK comedy). Another suggestion is "The Inbetweeners" which is about four teenage boys at school (equivalent of high school). One is a pathological liar, another hopelessly in love, and the new guy who used to go to a posh school and is now a fish out of water. What unites them is a very teenage desire for sex and their hopeless attempts to attract women. Some of what they say is incredibly sexist, but the joke is on them and about how much they misunderstand women. Both these shows have strong language, sex and drugs, so very NSFW. Inbetweeners is the cruder of the two. I thought it was very funny, but some people might find them a bit too gross.

I liked "Nurse Jackie", especially the first two series. In the end I felt like I'd had enough and they were running out of ideas. But given her health problems and acquisition of pain killers I suspect some people here might identify with the Jackie character. Although she is constantly messing up and doing things she shouldn't, you feel sympathy for her.

"Will & Grace" - I only saw the short they did to support Clinton's campaign. It felt nice to briefly have the characters back again, but I'm not sure how full length episodes will play out. So much has changed since it first went on TV. It was always rather coy about Will's sexuality as he was the straightest gay man possible. To all intents and purposes he and Grace were a couple, they just didn't share a bed. I wonder if Jack is going to be too much of a stereotype in 2017? However, I reckon they could still have a lot of fun with Karen. She's the sort of screw-ball character they could do anything with. Would be interested to hear what others think...

A big fan of GG. I Great writing and I had the opportunity to see the cast reunite at the ATX Fedtival in Austin. My friend still records the re-runs while she's at work. I think I've seen each episode 10 tmes by now.  Smile

Hi Barn-

Ok, I was just in the middle of replying and lost my reply. It just disappeared. Not in the Saved Drafts or anything. Bizarre. I think my iPad has a virus. I know Apple products aren't supposed to be able to get them, but it changes my words iwhen I write and and the auto corrects are not even close.

Anyway, I am excited to see Will & Grace. It will be interesting to see how what writers come up with in light of all the progress made for the LGBTQ community since the show last aired. Karen was my favorite character,

I have been eyeing Peep Show because of Finn Cole. He's another actor that I like and I've heard that he is really good on the show, and that the show is good in general. It's on my list of shows to watch, as is Black Mirror.

Never heard of The a Inbetweeners but it sounds good, do I'll look for it.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Muzicatty - Sounds like we have a lot of similar tastes!

Loved Rectify although I have the final season saved to watch. I think it was too slow for a lot of people and also on Sundance which a lot of people either don't get or overlook.

I'm way behind on The Leftovers but I love it, so different!

LOVE Fargo but we switched from TW to Google Fiber so lost a ton of stuff on our DVR and On Demand hasn't caught up yet so we are behind by about 4 episodes until On Demand catches up.

For the Breaking Bad fans who are skeptical about Better Call Saul, don't be - it's great!! So much background and insight, they have done a wonderful job IMO.
