Using smillies in a Message

Does anyone know why I can't use smilies in the message of a post? I am using an iPad. Should that make any difference?

I could just not know what I'm doing. HaHa

well, to use smiley faces, i cannot respond on my computer in the white area. (The Quick Reply area.) I must press the "New Reply" button that is directly under the last post.

But, no idea about Ipads.

May we please have some feedback for willie33 on this? (And, thank you. I know one of you will know.)

smiles are run through java script. You may have java security set high or not at all.
research how to turn java on.
Hate to say it but soon java is a lost art. It will no longer be supported by chrome, Firefox for IE (edge)
It is a giant security hole
